Guys, I noticed lately that DVD backups I make with Nero or DVD Shrink don't play on my Toshiba DVD player connected to my TV. The DVD backups seem to play fine on my Sony DVD+RW drive on my computer. Since I use Phillips DVD+R I don't think it is a problem with the media. My DVD player is several years old and I wonder if it can't read the backups. Commerical DVDs work just fine. Any help you can give me should help your overall Karma score in the great scheme of things.

actually, it PROBABLY IS your media problem~ :)

philips is NOT a good media brand, these are the possible manufacturers for your DVD+R by philips:

Philips DVD+R 4.7GB CMC MAG.E01 8x (SUCKS)
Philips DVD+R 4.7GB INFOME..R20 8x (SUCKS TOO)
Philips DVD+R 4.7GB MBIPG101R04 8x (WOW, how long can this SUCKING continue)

Philips DVD+R 4.7GB Philips.081 8x (can be decent if you have a burner that likes philips coded media, but i wouldn't touch it w/ a 10ft. pole)

Philips DVD+R 4.7GB PHILIPS.C08 8x (same as comment right above this one)

Philips DVD+R 4.7GB RICOHJPNR02 8x (finally a DECENT manufacturer)

ok, so basically, there you have it...if you would run your actual philips disc through a dvd identifier program...you will see who the culprit is...if it's one of the ones i mentioned above on the list, there is your problem right there.

CMC MAG is horrible...i really hope, for your sake, you didn't get that one~ let us know.

I checked my DVD player and it is a Toshiba SD-2805 5-Disk DVD Carousel no PAL, just region 1 (too bad - a Korean video store just opened up nearby and I love Korean gangster movies). I purchased it several years ago and it seems to work fine. It is distressing to this that my DVD blanks are not up to snuff. I read the discussions about what to buy and Phillips wasn't vilified too badly.
