I use a fliptop with SM 3.3, i have made about 10 succesful backups with it. I didnt use sm for about 2 weeks and i just went to boot a backup (shadow of rome) and it made a thinking noise for about 2 seconds then said "not a valid ps2 disc" I tried booting some other backups that i know worked before and they had the same problem. I've cleaned the swap magic disc already and i know it isnt my backups (because they were working before) All i can think of is maybe its my ps2 laser or my sm's broken somehow. Anybody had this problem or have any suggestions at all?

do you get until the screen that ask you to load your game ? if yes then your SM disc is not the problem since you can boot your PS2.... have you tried booting from an original instead of a backup ?

Thanks for replying, i get the screen that tell me too boot my game normally, when i make the swap with anything (including purchased game) the same thing happens where it almost automatically says its not a valid disc. I can boot purchased games no problem though.

I was having the same problem except my swap magic would only load 50% of the time. it was working just fine for 2 months or so then.. i think it just died. For some reason it refuses to boot any of my games and in the instance that it does load, it goes black screen for a sec then pops back into browser and says "insert a valid PS2 disc". So... I cleaned my lense, didnt work, I looked online, adjusted the lense, didnt work... so i tried using the CD version instead of DVD it worked fine. I just orded a new copy of swap magic today. Found it on some website for only 18 bucks + 4 bucks shipping for just the 2 discs... wish i woulda kept the site link to help you out... anyways i should get that in a week or so and maybe can tell you how it goes. ;/

I am hoping someone can help me out here. I have made many backups and using swap magic ver 3.3 they all worked great. I had an old big ps2. I recently bought a new slim ps2, and bought a new fliptop and even a newer version of swap magic (ver 3.6). None of my backups will work, they all say "not a valid ps2 disc). I can get to the boot program screen just fine, and I know all of my backups worked, but none of them will load. Any ideas???

Thanks

try using your older swap magic version... maybe the new version got scratched up a little. People say if you get the load screen your fine, but thats BS because I get the load screen on my old version (thats hella scratched) but it wont boot games, so got my new version and it works fine... or maybe.... hrm maybe the slim ps2's are more demanding on the type of media?

For the most part the older version of swap magic can't be read by my slim ps2, and the few times I have gotten it to read it does the exact same thing. Also I used Sony and TDK dvd-r's which I was told were both good quality brands. I went out today and bought some Verbatim dvd-r's and have the same problem. Any other ideas I am at a real loss here. Thanks Joe

The media you are using is o.k. for back ups. What back up games isn't your slimline able to read? Cause you know that some games such as Fantastic 4, Mercenaries etc need to be patched in order to be played with the swap magic discs. I think if the game is bigger than 4.3G then it needs to be patched. Go to www.swapmagicfix.com for a list of games which have patches available.

some of my backups are Area 51, Destroy all humans, Grand theft auto 3, vice city, san andreas, final fantasy x and x2. However they ALL worked on my old ps2 and now NONE of them will work on the slim ps2. I've exchanged the ps2 and I'm in the process of exchanging the swap magic discs to see if this solves the problem. I also ordered the slimline magic kit to use the factory top instead of the flip top to see if my flip top is working right. It's the weirdest thing, they all worked great and now not at all. I don't get it. Thanks for your response

people I need help big time and I don't no where to post for it...

I have Swap Magic 3.6, and my PS2 is open so you can say its Flip-Top

FIRST GAME EVER I burnt on my DVD writer was "The Puncher" and it works perfectly, right after it I burnt Driver 3... However, that does not work... it loads on to a black screen and that is it, the CD keeps spinning but nothing happens!

Today I rented "Tekken 5" & "Batman Begins" ... copied them the same way as I did puncher, but this time it tells me *Not A Valid PS2 CD*

I?m confused... the files on the original DVD-CD and the backup are identical, what the hell could be the problem? I need serious help, because I am being stressed and pissed and annoyed by this!

If you must know:

-Used DvD-Encrypter
-Read the game on to C:/ Drive
-Burnt The ISO File that was extracted to the C Drive at 4x & 2x
-DVD-R being used x8 speed Samsung pleomax
-Sony double layer DVD writer with 16x speed and the whole deal!

But yea... I did the steps over n over for all other games, but only the first "The puncher" worked... =S

PLEAS HELP SOMEHOW, anything would be great! Thanks

Did you use the "CD" Version of Swap or the "DVD"... for the two games that arent working you need to use the DVD version (Not saying your stupid or anything)... or maybe, for some reason with my bad ass burner if i burn games slow they sometimes dont work, try burning at whatever speed is right under the max for that disc... my CD's I get I burn at 8x always work perfectly, but if i burn at 2... then they load slow or dont even work, try that or maybe cleaning your PS2 lense, remember blank DVD is harder to read than a regular PS2 game, if you have never cleaned your lense this may be the problem... yet you say you have a slim ps2? Then you shouldnt have to clean the lense... mmmm try burning at max and see what happens... those games might also require a patch, but I dont think either of them do...

haha, no i know that i have to use dvd wit dvd's and cd with compacts! i am beyond that stage... ahh well... i guess i'ma take ideas from everyone thats replyed to my posts ...i completed batman begins in less then 2days... so i dont think i wanna reburn that, so im not that bothered bout the backup not working... but tekken 5! arrgh! haha... i'll try burning at 8x speed since the dvd's r 8x compaitble, and i'll try out different brands... also i'll try at slowest speed and medium speeds...hmmm i'll do the image extraction on dvd dyrcypter and then rebulid it on iso buster... and yea! hopefully i wont have to waste more dvd's in the futer!

Thanks yall!... i'm waiting for my pay slips to buy the blanks lol.. so i got to wait some days... haha!

cheeses...This is your thread, but I see no answer to your problem.

What media are the PS2 backups on? Crappy media can "burn out" so to speak in a matter of months.

Namely memorex.
