I have a bunch of tv shows in divX and want to convert them to DVD. What's the best way to do this and have the least amount of loss in video quality that comes from re-encoding?

Best, I don't know, but you can try DivXtoDVD. By going here: http://www.vso-software.fr/download.htm, you have the choice of trying the new shareware version that supports subtitles, and has its own burning engine (amoung other things of course) or you can try the old freeware version (found by looking very closely under product DivxToDVD; it is the last line--which is a link to download).

See for yourself and keep us updated as to whether you find the quality good, or if something else does the job better.

Thanks

Is there a difference in quality between these two versions of DivXtoDVD? Or do both versions use the same transcoding engine?

Yes there is a visible difference in the quality between the two versions (the second of course being significantly better). DivXtoDVD 2's construction started with the same transcoding engine (as found 0.5), but is no longer the identical due to the fact that many things have been corrected and changed.

Do you know what specifically changed in the transcoding engine? (Also, how do you happen to know?... I think I've been away from the forum for a while, and might have missed people talking about this... thanks!)

Hello,

I suggest going here to look at the version history: http://www.vso-software.fr/divxtodvd_history.htm

If you need more precise information, try writing to VSO directly.
