not everyone has a home theater set up......... but at least the dvd player will have the ability to support it in the future. my dvd player has all that and more, even has a 5.1 setup from the rear to be able to connect speaker to... of course, via an external amplifier or receiver...

If your receiver already has a Dolby digital and DTS decoder, then there is no reason to have a DVD player with a decoder. Just send the raw audio feed from your DVD player to your receiver via an optic or coaxial cable. If your DVD player supports DVD Audio or SACD and your receiver has analog 5.1 or higher inputs, then connect your DVD player to your receiver with those cables as well.

The advantage to having a built in decoder in your DVD player is so you can downmix the sound to hear it through your television. All DVD players have a Dolby decoder. It is rare to see one with a DTS decoder, though.

http://www.dealtime.com/xPP-DVD_Players--price_range_100_200
that link lists over 16 pages of dvd players that support DTS.
in the 100 to 200 $ range
http://www.dealtime.com/xPP-DVD_Players--price_range_0_100
and this one over 10 pages of DTS players under a bill..
just wanted to show you that it is NOT rare !

Im talking about dvd players with a built in DTS decoder, not ones that can output a DTS signal. Do you have a home theatre system?

yes sir, been wanting to upgrade my receiver, as it is a bit old, 3 years now... sony str885 i believe, i supports almost all the formats, DTS, dolby pro logic and II, DTS es, my 57 inch hitachi widescreen, polks all the way around with paradigm towers, and the (was new) LGDVB418 with HDMI upconversion. i did'nt know you meant built in decoder, just thought you meant supported. anyway, i am looking into a Yammy for an upgrade, or even the H/K @ circut city, i believe it was the 395, but not sure, i just started looking, plan to spend around 300 dollars or so.... for a new one. as have seemed to lost a bit of my surround sound, guy told me at b/b it may need to be cleaned and serviced.. you got any ideas for that price range?

Just about anything in that price range is going to be pretty similar in sound and capabilities. Are you looking to buy a 6.1 or 7.1 receiver? I noticed you didn't mention you had a subby, are you looking for one of those as well?

my bad, yup, got the polk 404 series... i love the low tones it produces. i'd prefer the 6.1 to a 7.1, being that there is no dvd in 7.1 yet, but would be nice to have just in case, but my living room is big enough to support a 7.1 set up. when i get my next house, i will have a theater room, all deck out, think i will spend about $10k for it. anyway, i just want better sound, better options, at least high current, thx certified, and just flat out rocks. i may splurge a bit and get in the 400 to 450 range.... but the wife just dont understand my wantings and logic.
