This should be simple, I just don't know what to do. I have seen the scans in KProbe2 that show PI and PIF scans. I just got KProbe2 and it shows C and C1 windows where the PI and PIF windows should be. Also, I told it to run test and all I could get out of it was a little log report, which pretty much told me I was scanning CMC MAG. That disappointed me, because I want to see the PI/PIF scans and I know CMC MAG is horrible.

Thanks!

have a look thru the 1st link in my signature for an overview of what it all means, the link to more indepth info is also in there, along with a fair few scans...

you need to do the scans on a dvd burner, not a dvd-rom drive for instance. it's easier (than me explaining) if you skim thru the main page here - http://www.kprobe2.com - all will be revealed

I still can't find what I'm looking for...I put the DVD (already burned) in my DVD-RW burner (Pioneer PVR-104, if it matters) and wait until KProbe2 refreshes. From here, what do I do to make it scan??

Thanks, Razor

OK...I pressed the start scan button, and it changes the chart titles to PI and PIF, but there are no results shown...Do I have perfect media? LOL (It's a MEMOREX CMC MAG!!!!)

Thanks again, Razor

it takes about 10mins or so, it has to spin up the drive for a bit, then look down bottom right and the percentage starts moving... eventually you get a result in notepad, then the graph at the end

I can't find an answer...I just installed and all settings are default. The thing is, it starts the drive, and stops the drive, and pops up the .txt. The percentage stays at 0% however and the process takes less than 10 seconds. How can I make it actually do the scan instead of starting and stopping, skipping the scan altogether??

it shouldn't bomb out straight away like that.

have you definitely got a kprobe-supported drive ?. if not you can use dvdinfopro which has similar scan facilities...

naw, kprobe2 is only for lite-on's (my Sony is a rebadged lite-on)

you need to use dvdinfopro then - free from www.dvdinfopro.com. a cracking little utility - it can do CRC scans , media info scans blah blah blah, it's great

I got this program you listed, and a lot of the features are awesome. However, how can I get the scan I wanted from the other program with this one??
Thanks, Razor

Sorry...I was in a hurry, maybe I can explain better. The original idea of me getting that prog was to see the PI and PIF scans. Now that I know I can't do it with that program, is there one that it can be done with? I tried it with DVDINFOPRO and I got a message: "Current drive is not suitable for this feature." Is there a way for me to do PI and PIF scans with my Pioneer, or will I have to buy more hardware?? I really would like to be able to tell the quality of my discs, but I don't know what else to scan for.

Thanks, Razor

they're the only 2 programs i can think of... dvdinfopro can do similar scans to kprobe, and should support your burner as it's a more universal proggy.... hmmm...

If I remember correctly, Pioneer drives do not support PI/PIF scanning. So you will need another drive.

You can do the next best thing.:)

Just download the program CD/DVD Speed or if you have Nero it is bundled with it in the toolkit. Do a Transfer Test. You are looking for a smooth gradual curve which indicates the drive is having no trouble reading the disc back. This is almost as good as error scanning.
