I need to know waht codecs I need to play just about anything with windows media player and so forth?

To play just about anything then you need just about all of them.
ffdshow can decode most common stuff though. You need more than just codecs for playback though. You also need splitters to handle different containers, AVI, mpg, ogm, mkv, dsm, etc.

Installing the k-lite codec package will let you handle practically every file out there....

I logged in on March 1st 2005, and it's incredible to believe that in so short time I've learnt all that I know about DVDs from this forum...
