Are you sure you installed a genuine Matrix Infinity? There are plenty of MI clones out there, which work out of the box, but once you flash them with new MI firmware or fiddle around in their config menu, will permanently kill it.

This thread explains it in more detail:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/144974

If you know its a real Matrix Infin, you might have burned your upgrade disc improperly. Burn it again with a different burning program and media, and follow these instructions:
Quote:
NOTE : You can always recover from a bad flash with the following procedure:
Put Upgrade CD into PS2 and put PS2 into standby.
Press "reset button" and keep pressed until blue light turn ON (on V1-V11).
(For the V12 press reset button from standby for 2-3 seconds as there is no blue light).
Leave "reset button" and Upgrade CD will boot.
Follow on-screen instructions to complete the Upgrade procedures.

Try upgrading to Firmware Version 1.54 http://www.infinitymod.com/matrix/files/downloads/InfinityFW154.zip . That might solve your problem.

thanks all for the info.

I spoke with the shop owner and she says the chip is 'GENUINE' but I doubt it.
I'll try with the v1.54 burnt with different media and tool.
If this fails again, I'll open it up tonight and see if it is really 'GENUINE'

Hmm, i was thinking about doing the upgrade too, but now i dont know.
Is there a way to know if the chip is genuine or not, without opening the console? (I didnt install in myself)

Hi
Take it back, he probably wont do anything about it, but then does he want you spreading the word on the net about him ripping people of??? Give it a try you have nothing to lose. As far as i know your chip is screwed

Man that stinks. If he won't fix it you could probably solder a new one in because the points are probably the same as the Matrix.

Hi good point, i was just thinking that after i had posted, the infinities are selling for aroung £20 now so it could be a cheap fix, and you wouldnt need to be that great at soldering to do it yourself

Thats unfortunate to hear. Hopefully the installer will give you a refund or put a real MI chip in for you, since you toasted the Modbo through no fault of your own.

Hi all,

They refuse to refund the money as their "warranty" is void since I opened the box myself.
They wouldn't even apologise for lying about the Modbo chip which they advertsied as "Genuine Matrix Chip".

I'm thinking of reporting them to the authority.
Any advise?

If you bought it using your visa then complain to visa sighting fraud. I'm sure that if you complain to some kind of consumer affairs authority you'll have a pretty good case. In Australia, this type of behaviour is called 'misleading and deceptive conduct' (and falls within the Trade Practices Act). See what the law in your country states.

icarus12, I am in a similar situation right now. Got my v9 PAL PS2 modded with a "matrix" modchip yesterday, got into the config screen (by accident) and saved without changes and now it doesn't work at all. It wont boot any games at all, and I was told the chip was a "Matrix Infinity" by the installer, but now I have my doubts. I'm not going to open it, but I might try and get my money back and the POS taken out of my system.
