Is there any software that can nicely edit MPEG2 files that are fairly big, one or two like 30GB, that will edit out commericals and not lose any or not much quality and maybe even make the files smaller?

I've tried tons of software but most stuff doesn't work right for me. I mean, I want something like the VirtualDub design, where you have a timelime and select what you want to delete, delete it, then save your new file.

Have you tried Adobe Premiere? I have at home version 6.5 which more or less encompasses most of what you described.

I use PVAStrumento to Demux the file. Takes a few minutes, but keeps audio sync nicely. Have it create "info file for Cuttermaran".
Open the demuxed file in Cuttermaran, and there's your timeline.
The only difference, you select what you want to KEEP, not delete.
Select the first frame of the video you want, click Mark In.
Select the last frame (before the commercial) select Mark Out.
Click "Add range to cutlist".
Continue until you have all the portions of the movie you want to keep.
Click the Save Video/Audio button.
Done.

Both pieces of software are free.

premiere is a full-blown editing system, and will suit your needs. premiere pro 1.5 is the latest version, and you can find it online bundled with other adobe software (like audition - audio editor, and after effects) for under $500, which is a bargain for what they can do.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

"Adobe Premier Pro" is Not Suited to Mpeg editing because it will allways Have to re-encode the File to output it which greatly reduces the quality and Takes a Very long time.....

RebootJims Method will not effect the Quality and will render in a matter of Minutes as Opposed to many hours with premier but if you want to be able to edit without Quality Loss but still have the Option to add Filters and effects and Transitions and even extra Audio tracks then Try "Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2005" which is a great Full features Native Mpeg editor that even supports AC3 audio....

Why is Cutterman now showing like the last 1 or 2 minutes at the end of the mpv?
