I was sucessfully able to burn some AVI files on to DVD-R, and it is able to play in my DVD player, however, I'm having some trouble with the subtitles. This AVI file already has subtitles from whomever I downloaded from, but when I play it in my DVD player, you can only see the subtitles half way, as if the picture is slightly too big for the screen. It plays just fine on my computer, but when I see it on the TV, I can't see the subtitles all the way.

Can anybody help a newbie out???

Well when you encode this File to DVD Format you Must add a Border arround the Image because your TV"s Overscan is Cutting off the Subtitles....

You add the Boarder arround the Image so that the Overscan on your TV set will Cut the Border not the actual Video.....

Since I have No Idea how you put this File on to DVD and what software you used I can"t tell you how to do it...Actually the Only encoder I know of that is easy to use that can add a Border arround the Image is TMPGEnc Pluss....

Well "WinDVD Creator v2.0" doesn"t have any settings for adding a Border arround the Image...It actually has Very Few Settings at all that have to do with the Way the File is Encoded....

You would have to use an encoder Like TMPGEnc to do this and after encodeing you would use that File to Make your DVD with....

If you tell me the Resolution of your AVI file and if you are Makeing a PAL or NTSC DVD then I will tell you how to set up TMPGEnc to encode your File so that there is a Border at the Top and Bottom so you will not have your Subtitles Cut off....

Cheers

Is there some way I can put a border around the picture without changing the AVI file to and MPEG before I burn it on disk? So far none of my other burned copies will play like the first one. For the first one, I just loaded the files into the DVD making programs, as they were when I downloaded them. Everytime I convert it to MPEG before I burn the CD, it seems to mess things up.

Ok...Run TMPGEnc and Close the Wizard and then Load in your AVI file and go into the Settings and Under the Video Tab you set the Video resolution to 720+480 and set the Format to Mpeg-2 and then go to the "Advanced" tab and under the "Video Arrange Method" setting set it to "Center(Custom Size)" and then set the Custom size to "672x416" and then that is it, Now you just encode the File like normal (Don"t forget to set the Other settings like your bitrate settings)....

When you are Done encodeing you should have a Mpeg-2 file that has a Border arround the Image, Now you just author the Mpeg-2 file to DVD useing a DVD Authoring program.....
