well i'm able to convert a avi into a vob file quite well, but once i go to watch it in my dvd player the video starts off looking perfect then proceeds to look rather pixelated. Does anyone know what causes this problem and how can i solve this problem? I am using tmpgenc source to encode it.

perhaps it may be your media..........
what are you using? what speed are you burning at?
my suggestion, if you are not currently using, use good media, ie; verbatim, ty, fuji, sony, tdk (look for MIJ on labels)
set your burn speed to 4x, thats the norm most people use, create less of a chance for error.....
reply back with what you are using, steps, and more info to assist you more.
