converting works, but it does not work on dvd player

hi all, i've been recently searching threads on forums not only on afterdawn but other forums as well but i have not found an answer to my question, and if there is an answer to my question that is on afterdawn i appologize. well my problem is i converted my avi files to dvd files using VSO DivxToDVD, i had 2 xvid files and i added them to the list to convert, it converted and it wrote on a dvd by itself. i tested the dvd if it works on my dvd and it doesnt, i tested it on my dads pioneer dvd player, it doesnt work either. i tried re authoring the dvd files using shrink but still no luck, and help wud be appriciated. ty all

Well it could be the software that your using to make the dvd or using to burn.First check witch type of media your dvd player likes.Is it DVD-R or DVD+R ect.....Have you burn any thing else with that same media with another dvd software and does it work ?

i have burned family guy the movie succesfully ( this XviD only has 1 file) i downloaded longest yard and war of the worlds ( 2 XviD files ) family guy works fine, i hav been burning almost about 150 dvd games/movies fine, media i hav is dvd-. Im not sure if the problem is the joining. i am not sure, if u kno if its the joining please notify me of wat proggys i shud use, ty all.

If your original XviD file is in PAL format and you have a player that only plays NTSC format DVD's, or vise versa, you will get these problems. You have to make sure your are encoding to the proper format.

There is already an option for that in the program you are using (VSO DivXToDVD). Select the option that says "Standard" (It is located under the "Aspect" option). The next thing you do is select either "Force PAL 25 Fps" or "Force NTSC 29.97 Fps". This of course will depend on whether or not your DVD plays PAL or NTSC format.
Another easy program to try is WinAVI. It has a few more options you can adjust.

im only using trial version of the vso DivXtoDVD program. i do not have that option. thanks for ur help tho, kno any other programs?

WinAVI Video Converter is software for video conversion. It can support almost all formats of video including AVI, MPEG1/2/4, VCD/SVCD/DVD, DivX, XviD, ASF, WMV, RM, QuickTime MOV, Flash SWF. Also, it allows you to burn to VCD/SVCD/DVD. A powerful AV compress engine can complete a whole AVI movie conversion and burn it to DVD in 1 hour.

WinAVI does the same thing that DivXtoDVD does. However, it supports more file formats and does other types of conversions as well. It is just an alternative to using DivXtoDVD.

In simple words
VSODivxToDVD Encoder & Pseudo-authoring tool
Takes your AVI file (for instance) and converts it to a ready to burn DVD compliant format (video_ts folder). No further steps are necessary
WinAVI Encoder only
Takes your AVI file and converts it to MPEG-2 format, necessary for being DVD compliant. After converted you need an authoring tool, such as DVDLab Pro, to take that MPEG-2 file and create a project with menus, subtitles and such. Once compiled (that is created a video_ts folder) you can burn it with Nero (for instance).
In other words, VSODivxtoDVD is a "one click tool", such as AVI2DVD or The Film Machine, which starts with a simple movie file (like AVI) and ends with a compliant DVD format movie.
When WinAVI only converts (in other words "encodes") the file to a required MPEG-2 format and later on you need an authoring tool to give it shape into a finished DVD compliant format.
I logged in on March 1st 2005, and it's incredible to believe that in so short time I've learnt all that I know about DVDs from this forum...

k0k0m0: WinAVI also converts .avi files to DVD Compliant format (i.e. VIDEO_TS Folder, .vob, .bup, .ifo files) There is no need for additional authoring software unless he wants to create a DVD that includes a menu.

J-suad, INDEED. I forgot... I was trying to point out that VSODivxToDVD gave you more stretched alternatives and that the combination "Encoder + Authoring" was better if you wanted more customization...
I logged in on March 1st 2005, and it's incredible to believe that in so short time I've learnt all that I know about DVDs from this forum...
