i interpret your thread title to mean you're the 1% of people who've had good results with that atrocious utter rubbish appalling media :)

..Memorex/CMC - don't let them near your Burner..... - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/195438

LOL. Thx creaky for the commentary.
I have two working systems and started just with a cheap amtech which did the job for about a day. Replaced it with the Sony dual and that worked about 2 days and then bombed as well. Finally I did (against all better judgment-as A LOT OF FOLK agreed with U) the memorex thing and am thrilled with it. I probably should start a new thread but, the only problem I've had with it is with Sony black space on their new DvD's.

We got something nice going here so don't freak.
I USE THE MEMOREX 16 dual burner and the MEMOREX combo 52x read etc.
The equipment is about a year and a half or so old.
OK ready for my sense of humor-I'm MEMOREX complaint-LOL!

will read the thread thx.

no worries, only messing with the Memorex jokes, if the media works for you that's cool, i and many others just won't recommend it to anyone as it causes so much grief, but as i say, if you're happy with it then we'll go from there and see what else might need tweaking, then look at the media last of all. Deal ?

Deal....I'm just tweaked out.
As I said the FIRST thing I did was go to MEM. (that dirty word again) and updated my firmware. Then I went to Nero and updated my registry for speed. Then went to DVD Shrink and updated to .15 from .014.
I'm not complaining on 8x discs when I use my Nero first aid to test the drive I average 11.01x on an 8x disc and pretty much shrink and burn new dvd's at about 17 minutes without reauthoring. I just REALLY LOOKED forward to the 16x media.
The more I'm reading about the quality and the error rates for burning at high speeds the more disappointed I'm becoming. I'm thinking of returning those packs I brought and sticking with 8x.
Whatcha know about 16x speed discs?

for movie burning most people stick to 4x. i myself have burnt 10 discs tonight, and at 4x that's still only 15mins for each one. I'm a Verbatim datalifeplus freak but have only just started using their 16x discs as only recently found out my burner's firmware supports 16x discs. However i still won't burn above 4x even on my top notch media. Had a disc skip on me over the weekend and that was top notch 8x Verbatim media burnt at 4x. However i know that i was multitasking when that particular disc was done.

i spend hours each night posting to an endless stream of problems, mostly due to bad media and/or too high burn speed. The way i look at it is, so many people out there have so many problems with burning at lower speeds, never mind higher, or even overburning. Kind of makes helping out of threads frustrating as the best we can do is make sesnible suggestions, ie firmware, free memory etc etc, but one of the biggest problems is media. And all the big companies do is create faster media with lesser quality.

I am very disillusioned with media as lately have been following new developments re my prized Verbatims, for instance -

thx for the info. looks like I got some reading to do tonight.
Lately I also do not like what is going on with media (or anything else-is age making me cranky?). Seems like 4x's is where the media hit it's maximum potential. In other words, the burns, discs and quality all came together in a nice neat little packet-them were the days LOL!
Unfortunately I'm one of those people who like things fast and easy and just HAVE to TRY everything NEW instead of just sticking with what works best.
Looks like I'm going to stay around with my 8x's and my 17 min. speeds until everything else catches up.
thx again for the chat-was it nice for U-just teasing!
