I Usually use DVD Decrypter and save Isobuster for the scratched discs, but does Isobuster really perform better than Decrypter?

I never knew ISOBuster was anything special on scratched discs.
I use them for totally different purposes, but if I had to pick one or the other I'd say DVD Decrypter was the better of the 2.

Well, yes at least I read that some part... and it has been the only program that had let me copy discs which kept on saying something about a redundancy error or something like that...
which ones do you use when the disc is scratched or DVDDecrypter fails?

I try to clean it up best I can, maybe use a bit of Windex on it. I usually get another copy if it's too bad after that. Maybe use one of those Disc Dr. thingys.

From Isobuster's page
Quote: IsoBuster features:
- Better Error handling and several retry-mechanisms to aid you in getting the data anyway.
- More CDs stay 'readable' after problems (such as Buffer Underrun).

Well actually you are right ISO buster does seem to rip those pesky little disks that are badly damaged a little better than Decrypter. Also you might want to check out DVD Fab Decrypter as it seems to handle those problem (scratched) disks very well also. I have had some disks that are just so far gone that decrypter couldn't rip them, but DVDFab Decrypter did the job. :-)

Really? Cool, I didn't know about that bbmayo. Thanks so much, I'm gonna try it. I want to have a tool that can be reliable when it comes to handling scratched discs. Where can I d/l it?
question: does this tool hanlde individual files like Isobuster? I had a word file, for instance, that it was compulsory for me to retrieve and Isobuster helped me out...

here is the link to DVDFab Decrypter DVDIdle.com/free.htm" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.DVDIdle.com/free.htm
It will only rip the whole disk that is the only real drawback I see from this program, but it works :-)

Hey there,
Take your scratched DVDs down to your video store and see if they do refinishing. First check to see if there are any scratches in the label side. If there are and you can see light at the scratch when you hold it up to a light bulb (label side toward you) then all the cleaning in the world won't help Around here it costs 2 - 5 dollars to get a DVD re-finished but it's worth it as they come out like brand new. Those home units stink unless you buy something in the $150 dollar range that is an actual refinisher. The home units clean dirt, fingerprints etc. but not much else. Even the cheap motorized ones aren't very good
By the way I think DVD Decrypter is the best. The first time I came across a copy protected DVD using DVD Shrink 3.2, the program gave me a url that I clicked on that took me to the site to download DVD Decrypter. If your backup freezes up, try running it through DVD Decrypter and then burn the files it makes with DVD Sgrink 3.2. Most times it is some sort of copy protection causing the lock up or error.
Sincerely,
theone

Thanks for your info. My discs are usually scratched on the surface, no big "trenches" but usually enough to bother and make DVD Decrypter inform of errors on the reading.
I even tried once to put toothpaste on it, but you can't imagine how it left the disc after reading it with the high temperature laser! haha

I used ISOBuster for the first time the other day, worked great when I couldn't get a movie burnt using dvdd.....there seems to be a problem tho. I can play the movie on my stand alone player no problem, but puter doesn't recognize the disk, and, when I try to use DVD Shrink to make a duplicate copy of my burnt dvd, it keeps saying there is "no disk" in my drive OR "wrong format..incorrect function".
Any thoughts on the matter?????

I'm facing the same problem. I've got a DVD movie today from a friend... it's a DVD-R, and it plays fine on my Pioneer 533K. But when I put it into the drive, DVD Decrypter says "Disc is empty", AnyDVD cannot report anything beyond "Disc is a Data DVD, booktype dvd-r". Isobuster sees only a single session 2048 bytes long (which it cannot read anyway).
I'll try various things and report back here if I succeed in ripping the contents off the DVD. It's strange... if none of us figures a way out, something along these lines would seem to be a real good copy protection scheme!

vikaslk,
If it was me, I would just do it with DVD Shrink. It (using the Nero engine) works every time and the times are more than reasonable. I copy most copies in about 12 min. It's easy to use and understand, I put the copy in my DVD-Rom drive and the blank in the DVD burner. Click backup and it will do a quick analysis and and then you click backup again. That's it! It does it all by itself after that! As a bonus, I almost never get a coaster!
Sincerely,
theonejrs

To all,
I guess that I should have read some of the earlier posts. DVD Shrink lets you enable it to record 30 seconds in high compatablilty mode. I've only found a few machines that won't read them. These were all older machines. I've also had no trouble, ever reading them on a computer or copying them. I've had some people in this forum tell me that if I want to waste time doing it the way I do. To me it's not time wasted if it works and works well. I've had people bragging that they can burn DVDs in about 5 min. I tend to doubt this. Maybe with a 16x and a short already compressed movie they can. I have a pretty good computer and I am just fine with the speed DVD Shrink does things. Hey, it works! First time, every time!
Sincerely
theonejrs
