Hello all. Wonderful set of forums you have here.

I noticed some folks here have had success with Memorex DVD-Rs on a Pioneer DVR-105. I have not. Every one I burn stutters or freezes toward the end of the disc, and not just in my stand alone player (Sony S360) but using WinDVD and the 105 on my computer! Last night I tried a data disc with them and it would not verify.

The DVD-RW that came with the drive works fine everywhere. I assume it is a Pioneer. White top.

Is there some secret I should know to using Memorex discs in this burner?

I have Ritek, Pioneer and Samsung media on order to try.

Edited to add: I burn data discs with Nero (5.5.10? maybe) and video with MyDVD (4.0.4). Neither data nor video work. I even tried burning to the DVD-RW (worked fine) and copied that using Nero to a Memorex DVD-R (stutters).

Thanks,

Matt D

I have a Pioneer DVR-105 and I have used Memorex DVD-R's quite a few times and never had any problems. Some other brands such as Hypermedia have had about a 50% success ratio with me. I also use WinDVD and burn with Nero. I do know that different burning programs give different results.

I use the Ritek 4X disks from Shop4Tech and have burned 50 so far without any problems. The disks are 1.79 each when you buy 100. The first Pioneer 105 burned out after the first week and I am worried that the Ritek disks damaged the drive. There has been problems with the Pioneer 104 recorder in this but not on the 105.

I have a cendyne dvd-105. I also have problem with Memorex dvd-r but no problem with Memorex dvd-rw. The most devestating problem is dvdXcopy reported success after copying the movies, but they will play only the menu, but not the movie. I check the DVD on my computer, and the DVD is full, with all the necessary files, just won't play on neither my PC nor my 2 tabletop dvd players.

Just got a Cendyne/Pioneer 105 myself. First one would burn, sometimes, but had trouble with jerky playback and dragging sound. I took it back, put the second one in and then I remembered to enable DMA transfer for this drive and loaded the ASPI drivers. It does great now. I can't remember where the menu came up to enable dma transfer, but it is also according to which Windows operating system that you have.

I bought a 3+3 pack of Memorex DVD-R and RW. The RWs work great, I use them for testing everything. The first 2 of 3 DVD-Rs freeze and lock up even in my 105. Same image worked fine with a RW. I'm reluctant to try the third DVD-R.

Not sure that's an odd combination. Even if you could, there's not a player out there that I know of that will read CD audio on a DVD disc. You could burn MP3s (over 1000) onto a DVD-RW, and I know there are some devices advertised as being compatible with that. They are sold as car decks but have RCA out and could be run anywhere.
