A couple of days ago I went to a store where I can install my magic 3.1+ to my Version 8 PS2(SCPH-39006). Everything went fine in the installation and all but ultimately the modchip does not seem to be activated. DVD movie loads directly(which is not supposed to happen if mod chip is activated) but not the backups I have...

I checked everything in the modchip: bridges, checking with volt-meter , wire places and the likes. Of course I placed GND wire very near to the modchip and using the thick wire.

What are the factors that the modchip didnt work?
- modchip damaged(I hope not)
- Lack of PWR/GND to activate modchip?
- Laser adjustment?
- broken wire?(I dont think so, the technitian temporarily use my old clone magic3.0 and it works)

A friend suggested me to try double PWR and GND wire... Has anyone tried this method? Just wanted to know if it works...thanks~

+Edit
Oh I get a red screen when I attempt to load my backups and stuff...

same mod here, but i didn't have the problem. it would boot but a little weak.

i increased the guage wire i used for gnd and pwr and made the wires to the bios as short as possible.

the rsd (read screen of death) is normal if the chip is not working.

if all wires are connected properly and no bridges the chip should be working.

I see... how do you increase the gauge wire for gnd and pwr?
How to tell if there are bridges? I dont really understand that term...
Lastly , the bios.. the one located at the bottom? so I have to shorten it I see...

i am not exactly saying that that will fix the problem since it should be booting even with long skinny wires. so, but it is worth a try anyway. the bios is the chip where all the wires go to pretty much.

i used 22 gauge speaker wire. or double up works on the wires. a bridged connection (which occurs often) is where the solder put a "bridge" between two of the arms on the circuit board making them touch when they are supposed to be seperate.

check with a mag glass for any spots that are connected and aren't supposed to be. this will effect any mobo from operating correctly.

good luck

I see I see... So thats a bridge... I noticed that a tiny part of the RST solder is somewhat connected to a metal-like part that has a label "333" in it. Is this bridged? Just wanted to be sure and stuff... thanks~

yes, they are not supposed to be connected. anything that you connected b/c of your soldering job will be bad. (don't worry, i did that myself a lot) but you can get rid of it by carefully using the soldering iron or what is easier and better, by using desoldering braid, that you can buy. use the braid and not other desoldering methods.

bridges are most likely your problem. lets hope it isn't a bad chip.
