I have tried changing several settings in DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and Gordian Knot rippers. I have the same problem with all three programs. I get anywhere from 10 to 80% done encoding and the whole computer system locks up. I have tried 4 different dvd's including one with no protection on it. Same results. I have 20 gig of space left on Hard Drive. I have tried an old NEC 4 speed and a new Samsung 16 speed, both have the same results. I have searched the forum here but can't find any posts with this problem. I have a working copy of the newest Nero version on my system. I have tried turning off my SBC anti-virus. The system is a 1.8 gig with Win XP ser. pack 2 on it. I walk down the hall and use the same software on my old system I gave the kids and every thing works fine. This is driving me nuts!!! Thanks for any input to clear this up you may have.

Hello there, This sounds like a similar problem I had with my new custom built system. Ripping/Enconding DVD's does take alot of CPU resources (usually up to 100%) for prolonged periods. Consequently the CPU gets to hot & starts to hang or reboot. In my case, I simply didnt have enough cooling power so I fitted an additional case fan and installed a motherboard monitor (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=311) - basically a piece of software that can show your temperatures within windows (as oppose to the BIOS only) - This should indicate if you have a cooling problem.

Incidently, I have to clean the dust out of my CPU fan grills every 6 months or so, otherwise it starts to overheat. - When I do, the 100% running temp drops by about 15-20 degrees!

*moved from DVD Ripping*

this is not a ripping question. Post in the appropriate forums.

Johnny! Thanks for the input. It solved my problem. I guess I didn't have as much cooling in my new system as I thought. That monitor works real well.
