I know most of you will laugh, but I have been using DVDXCopy for a long time, mainly so I can split a DVD-9 into 2 DVD-5 discs, keeping the menus and extras as well. Unfortunately, DXCopy does not do well with 8X media, and I am running out of my 4X Verbatims(I stocked up on them when they were cheap at Sam's). Does anyone know of a program that performs this same function? Encryption is not an issue for me. I use Shrink/Decrypter for various things as well, but unfortunately you cannot do this with Shrink. Thanks for any info!

I'm not really sure I understand your question but one app I use to remove previews, adverts, warning screens, and any extras I don't want leaving a functional menu, the movie, bloopers, deleted/extended scenes, and any extras I do want is DVDRemake. It allows you to trim and polish your video folder therefor not requiring as much compression to a single DVD5. I then encode with DVD-RB/CCE (which reproduces the best video quality of any encoders under $2000). I can't see ANY video quality loss between the original pressed dvd and my backup on my 52" HDTV. Another transcoder that will allow you to reauthor and leave the menu functional is Nero recode2. It was written by the same guy that wrote DVD Shrink. Mr DVD Shrink works for Nero now.
This may not be what you were looking for but might give you some more options. I highly recommend DVDRemake.

Another option to consider is CloneDVD2, it allows 'splitting' while retaining menus. Split must be at a chapter break, which is what is usually wanted anyway. It is on sale ($10 off) for $29 via the "afterdawn" promotion code at www.slysoft.com.

Thanks Kringles.
Thats what I was looking for. A program where you could split a DVD-9 onto two discs so you wouldnt have to compress anything. DVDXCopy worked perfectly, but unfortunately there is no more 4X media on the market, and DVDXCopy doesnt let you set the speed.

you can find 4x media, you just have to go online. I just bought a batch about a month ago.

Well, I mean 4X +R media - preferably Verbatim or Maxell. I tried the 4X -R TY's at supermediastore - had nothing but problems.

well I did find one link for DVD+R Taiyo Yuden 4x, but they were expensive and may be fakes. Here it is if you want to check it out, but I personally wouldn't trust it, considering it's the only link I found for it. If it were genuine TY I'd think it would be able to be found at more than one place.

Holy shit! They want $65 for a 50pk of 4X +R TY media! How do they make money? LOL Thanks for the link though Squizzle. I think I'll stick to trying to find a program that lets me set the burn speed :-)

I still like DVD-X-Copy version 1.5.2 (Platinum & Express always stunk) for my simple backups but it doesn't allow for setting burn speed. Does anyone know of a driver or utility that would force a (for instance) Pioneer109 to burn at 4X with 8X or 16X media? It won't be long before 4X media will be unavailable.

I don't have dvdxcopy (had xpress) but anyway does it allow you to select a folder on your hdd as the target? If so you can come back and burn that folder with Nero or other burning app and burn at whatever speed you choose.
