i know you put all this info to help but i have a question that isn't there. do you have to buy a mod chip to play dvd games. i would really like to know how to burn the files i downloaded onto a dvd media disc and play. please if anyone can help get me started i would appreciate it. i know we can't talk about how to do illegal stuff so my email address is i want to burn the iso images that are downloadable on the net from torrent sites and play them on my slim ps2. i have nero and just need to learn the methods. thanks anyone who will help.

You must have a death wish to go putting your email address on a post where you then go on to admit to wanting to download illegal material via torrents.(Maybe you want to edit your commments quickly)
You need first to decide whether you want to go the mod way or the swap magic way before you do anything else.

agree with above, remove your email address
people can send you a private message here if you want.
you need to mod your PS2 first off before you even think
about downloading anything and burning it
once you have decided on which way you are going
swap magic & flip top
or mod chip
then move on to the next steps like burning.

My bit of advice would be to go for swap magic and a flip top.
The flip top is nice and easy to install and can be done by anyone with a screwdriver and half an hour spare. Instructions to install can be found anywhere on google so can a supplier.
Mod chips are not my thing so you would need advice from someone else but most involve soldering and as you say yourself you would like the least hassle route.

Yes, you can copy games or download torrents as you wish, burn them and play them using swap magic and a flip top.
On which flip top to buy. As you've said it depends on the version of ps you have. Check out - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/206967
Where did you here you could play nes games on a ps2. Crazy rumour. Never heard of that being done before.
Check out ebay for lots of flip tops and swapmagics.

depends on your money situation really.
The flip top and swap magic are the cheap way to go.
but it has it's downfalls like having to rebuild
or patch some games to get them working.
Having to swap multiple times with swap magic and DVD Loader
when using a cheat disc like AR Max
Not being able to play dual layer (DVD9) back ups.
and having to buy new sets of discs everytime they upgrade
and you want the new features it has.
a GOOD mod chip has none of these problems
DMS4 Pro, DMS4 Lite, Matrix Infinity
or for the soldering challenged DMS4 EZI solderless chip
if you go the way of the chip DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!
i can tell you the one's i have listed are all great choices
i have both a V7 with flip top & swap magic
and a V12 with DMS4 Pro
needless to say i never use the V7 anymore.
for a chip and install it will run around $100

ok i seen the DMS4 Pro and I think that is the way to go. Now will this read the discs that I burn if I download the games from the net? I want to get away from having to rent games and then copy them. I can get any title online, download it, and then burn it off onto dvd discs. I want to go that route and skip paying for anything. I guess that sounds cheap but not when you add all the time looking for the game to rent and all the money it costs to rent each one. Especially when you think about if I have friends..... Have you done this yourself...burning games straight from the net??? Is this DMS4 Pro solderless??? I don't have the serial number on the PS2 anymore can't figure out where the sticker went. But I just purchased is and the paperwork on the book is 70001 so I think it is a V12. Thanks for all your help already and can't wait to see your reply on this one. Maybe we could talk easier about this stuff if we got together off this site. Let me know how to reach you other than here. Thanks again.

if it is a v12 then it is the slim PSTwo
and it doesn't really matter with a chip
they can be put into any system
as far as the other stuff you wrote, since both
downloading and renting games and burning them is
illegal, you may want to be more aware that these are
public forums that ANYONE can read.
just so you know, downloading is not just a simple download and burn process. It takes 8-12 hours even with a cable modem to get
a game. and they are hit or miss. you will often get bad copies
or games from other regions (PAL).
Just not worth the $5 you save in my opinion.

so it doesn't matter which chip i get. i understand the PAL part is the same with dvds...some won't play in the dvd player if it is PAL only NTSC. Like I said earlier i know about the chances i am taking talking out loud in this post. Maybe we could talk elsewhere since you seem to have the info I need??? Let me know....
