i've been searching around for a similar problem, but most of what i've found relates to games freezing etc. my problem is that my little used xbox has started freezing right away. usually the green dot of varying size depending on if the system has frozen after 1 or 2 seconds etc. tried a few different games, and the same result. now and then i'll get a few minutes into a game, and them freeze-up. but 90 percent of the time it's right away. just started doing it in the last 2 days. the system had not been used for about 3 months. i've moved the system away from other stereo equipment. i cant see this meaning anything, but we're in a wicked heatwave right now and (thanks to no air conditioning) the area around the unit would be quite warm. the unit fan is working though. i've considered just taking the unit apart, but once im inside i wouldn't know what im looking at anyway. any tips etc would be greatly appreciated.

A friend of mine has a softmodded xbox and his does the same thing except he also has a yellow bar across the top of the screen. Rumors I've heard are, it's a game that causes that (how/why, I dunno). Is your xbox softmodded?

dont believe so. i've tried various games, and without games in the tray. same thing. ( although it 1st started doing all this stuff after trying to play Splinter Cell). so, it appears the unit is a lemon. likely not worth getting it fixed as prices on units will drop with the new one coming out. im sure this unit logged no more than 30 hrs of use though.

I wouldn't give up just yet. There are some geniuses in Afterdawn. You might wanna try posting a new thread for your issue and see what comes of it. I'm sure you're not the only one going through this.

I way he said he fixed that problem was to put the original factory hard drive in. Boot up the xbox as if you were gonna play. Once it sits on the MS Dash turn it off, put the modded hard drive in and it should boot up fine.

thanks again uniique1. but you may have to dumb-down the language for me, as i am such a newbie, im not really sure what you are saying haha. (i tried the machine twice last night, and immediately it went to a green dot on the screen.....nothing else.....straight to the dot .)

You have a softmodded xbox right? Do you have a larger hard drive installed on it other than the factory? How big is your xbox's hard drive?

If you do have a larger one, take it out and plug up your origianl xbox hard drive. Turn on your your xbox. If it boots up fine turn it off, take the original hard drive out and plug up the larger drive. Lemme know if that fixes your problem.

whoa boy uniique1, i thought trying to program sat. dishes was hard ! a new language to learn.
this xbox hasn't changed since it came out of the box. it's played 2 games boxing and golf and saved some of that information. other than that, nothing.....until the dreaded Splinter Cell-Pandoras World or whatever the thing is called. however, while thinking back, i believe the sequence of events went like this......i played splinter cell for about 10 minutes and then saved the information and turned it off. i went back to it, and then all this trouble started. only once more did i get into the game, but it froze-up after a few minutes. now it's just the quick milli-second green dot. so to (try) and answer your questions....i don't think its softmodded, but i don't know how large the hard drive is. again thanks for hanging in and trying to help this newbie with the green dotted xbox system !

Oh, LOL!! Sorry. If it's doing that and it's still under warranty just return it. It could just be faulty.

warranty is long gone as the unit is about 2 years old. likely just bad luck, as it didn't get much usage. taken down by Splinter Cell, lol.
again....thanks for all the help uniique1.
