1) People do it for various reasons. For what reasons I don't know but I think it's a good idea.
2) It's not the quantity of posts it's the quality. The more you help out and say something worthwhile the higher you are looked upon.

status change about 4 to 6 weeks so you might be in between the status change

samsamsam, This is a computer / software type forum. I wish more people put their specs in their signature , it would save a lot of time and questions. A better question is why do people make political statements, and [ supposedly] funny comments that have nothing to do with what Afterdawn is about in their signature???
I built my machine just about a year ago and am getting ready to upgrade again.

@samsamsam - lol, you ask a question re ppl showing off then ask when your status is changing :)
only messing. for me there's no real reason for the system specs so i guess it's lack of creativity, but i do like the rest of the sig to have space for frequently used links - in my case they're for copy/pasting to try to dissaude people to stop buying crap DVD media

I find it interesting what other peoples PCs are. They may have a piece of hardware that you may consider purchasing. You can ask them what they think of it. You will get an honest answer too!
"Lack of creativity", (an oversimplified question that may have Freudian overtones) said probably in jest, but the ramifications....LOL!

mine used to be in my sig just because i was needing computer assistance all the time around here and it saved a few lines of posts. but, i took it out when i had gained the knowledge to no longer need oodles of assistance. nevertheless, my reason was a good one :D

Some of the computer sigs are WAY to big. They can take loads of space & are unnecessary. I like mine to be brief & to the point!

PS, nice one Auslander. I have a long way to go yet!

Personality. All my PCs were built by me and it's a little bit (lotta bit) of me in each one. I think people want to post what backs up who they are hence the signatures as they are.

Here is an excellent example of why people put specs in their sigs, a member wanted to know how his PC would perform with a different CPU, I added a bit, then I noticed in another thread that skidme may know the answer, due to me seeing his set up in his sig. I directed him to the aforementioned thread, & hey presto. Have a look for yourself......

I personally like looking at people's sytem specs so that I can compare them to mine. You can call it showing off or whatever, but it's not intended to be that way. I just don't want to have to retype my specs every time I need assistance.

I put my specs in my signature, because in other forums, and here, a long time ago,I posted some questions, and the first response that I got, asked me what my system specs were. I don't get asked that question, anymore.

I placed the specs on my sig also because they were often asked in some threads, now they might be there for nothing because I haven't got any computer-related questions lately but I've been too lazy to remove them. It's not about showing off because my equipment isn't worth of that ;)
