My ps2 will plays all of my dvd+/-r backups but it refuses to play cdr backups. You can hear the disc clunking around when I try to boot it with swap magic. I did try cleaning the lens but no luck. Anything else I can do or try to fix this?

Your PS2 isnt whack :-)

alot of people have problems with their PS2 playing backup PS2 CD rom games. Even mine.

So here is a thread to help you. This thread shows you how to change your CDrom game into a DVDrom game where you can burn it onto a DVD blank disc. It seems that the PS2 can read backup DVDrom games better then CDrom games. It is simple and works great. So give it a try!

Larrylje is right. my Ps2 makes makes the some noise when i insert a CD-r \. but i refuse to play a small MB. game. i play Virtual Fighter 4
that plays good but hate the wierd sounds it makes at night.

There is a solution,but I can't say that it would be easy.You can recompile a cd to dvd if you want to,it is safer on your laser.Cd discs give the lasers a hard time for PS2 systems,Sony put cheap laser units in the systems.I can read cd discs fine,but I can tell it strains the laser so I just stopped using cd discs and am using everything dvd.Recompiling a cd to dvd requires patching and rebuilding of the disc,but the outcome is the same as it would be on cd just plays better in the system.A dvd will not produce as much strain on the laser as a cd will.
