Hello,

I have a problem with my PS2 Slimline. Up until yesterday it was working fine then it would only read the blue disks (meaning the underside of the disks are a dark bluish color)all the other disks just won't read. I've tried cleaning the laser and that doesn't work. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,

Amano1002

Yes, these are original disks. The PS2 is not modded.

no sure, mine sometimes has problems with my AR Max disc,
which is also the blue bottom type. But i do not have any
other discs like that to test. You just have to keep
resetting until it reads it.

the best solution would be to search the net for a
guide on how to adjust the laser, that helps with
problems like reading discs.
but you will have to open your PS2 to do it.

I have found a few laser adjustment guides but they all seem to apply only to older model ps2's.

Note: "blue" discs are CDs and "silver" discs are DVDs. Seems like your pstwo is suffering from a dying laser. Adjusting the pots (variable resistors) on the laser might help you get a bit more life out of the unit, but sooner or later you will probably need to get the entire laser assy replaced (probably sooner than later). You should probably also perform a fix on the mechacon (mechanics controller, the chip that controls the laser) as soon as possible to prevent a crash from totally melting the laser. Popular pre-made fixes include the "comsoft fix" and the "summ0ne fix" (also known as "subzero fix").
