Hi,

I have a Ripper3.2 modchip, just installed today.
I have noticed that GT4 now refuses to play (it reads the memorycard then locks up) unless I disable the modchip.

Is this expected behaviour? Is this the correct forum to post in? Please tell me if not, as you might gather this is my first (but won't be last) post here.

Great info, i've been reading all day.

If your mod chip doesn't auto boot DVD 9s, and I assume the game is a DVD 9, then you need to patch the game using the toxic patcher. I have a Matrix Infinity which auto boots DVD 9s which means I can do a 1:1 copy onto a dual layer disc.

Hi,

I didn't make myself clear I don't think :)

I have a ripper 3.2 mod chip - it says it supports dual layer DVDs.

My issue isn't that, it's playing my original GT4 disc that doesn't work. Not a burnt/copied one, my original. I have to disable the modchip before the original game will play.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Yes I *know* I have to disable my modchip, I've already said that.

What I'm asking is "Is this normal?" Do other people have to disable their modchip before their Original GT4 will work? Or is my modchip a faulty/crappy one?

I don't have to disable my mod chip (Matrix Infinity)in order to play my original GT4. You might try, at your own risk of course, re flashing the chip with the latest firmware and see if that solves the problem.

Cool, finally a response that actually understands my question :)
Thanks Yoti.

It's already running the latest firmware version.

I've emailed the modchip people but they're obviously not interested in replying.

Thanks!

That's why I decided to buy a reputable modchip like the Matrix Infinity. If I ever have any probs or questions I drop team matrix an E-mail and they get back to me (usually) the same day with an answer or solution.

Yes, I'm wishing now I'd got a Matrix instead.
Though the guy I got to do my modchip recommended the ripper as being the best.

I should have done my damn research first of all!!

Not that I really care, the ripper works perfectly otherwise and loads up all my backups without problems, plays all my multizone DVDs etc etc. At the end of the day it does what it says it does.

I intend to make a DVD5 of my GT4 anyway then it won't matter if I have the modchip enabled or not.

Thanks for your replies.

I like that, someone who can solve their own problem! You'll also find that the DVD5 GT4 game will load faster and you don't have to watch all of those crappy movies! Like you said, if the chip does what it's supposed to do then that's great.

Hmmm my first attempt to make a DVD5 ended up with a coaster! I'm not sure why, I followed all the steps. Anyway I'm sure there's another thread I can ask about that.

I've been talking to the guy who installed my modchip, while he thinks I'm crazy (and I don't really blame him) he's agreed for a very reasonable price to remove my Ripper3.2 and install a Matrix. Having had a look at their features and hearing about their excellent tech support I think I'll be much happier.

What I don't get is, the price on a ripper is more expensive than a Matrix Infinity - Yet no one seems to have heard much about the Ripper3! I haven't asked him why the "better" chip is cheaper.

The main thing I like with the Matrix is options to tweak, the ripper3 has nothing like that. I'm a techie, I like to fiddle!

Yeah I've never heard about the Ripper3 until you mentioned it. Anyway, you will not be disappointed with the Matrix Infinity chip. It's an excellent unit which is backed up by great customer support from it's makers. I did a 1:1 DL back up of my original GT4. But just for fun I also made a DVD5 back up of this game and it worked fine - though I had a problem with one of the programs but I just dowmloaded it again and it worked fine.

Yoti: Thanks very much again for your help.

I now have a Matrix Infinity Chip and I'm MUCH happier! Cool options to tweak and it boots my GT4 without having it disabled. I love also the "Fast Boot Mode" it has, excellent.

It came with V1.38 onboard, rather slack of the modchip guy I think. I soon had it upgraded to v1.54 though.

Woo! I'm very happy!

More info!

I am 100% sure now that the Ripper3.2 is just a very bad clone of the Matrix Infinity chip! What amazed me was the Infinity Manager software when I loaded it up looked *exactly* like the Ripper3.2 Manager. They are the same bit of software!

I'm amazed my modchip guy charges more for the Ripper than the Infinity, it's obvious to me the Infinity is a much better chip!

Let me know the name of your chip installer (only joking)- that was a quick installation. Glad to hear that you are happy with the Matrix Infinity. It's unfortunate that there's so many clones of this great chip going around - guess it's buyer beware! I was originally thinking of getting the DMS4 Pro cause as far as I know there are no clones of that chip but I was told that this chip tends to over heat the slim line PS2 so I settled for the Matrix Infinity - which I bought from an authorised distributor and installed myself - just to be safe.
