I don't have a PS2 but my friend asked me a favor as I have a DVD burner (Pioneer A09 16x) if I could make a back up copy of a certain game too much used and worried he could lose it. I know how to back it up as I use Clone, Nero, Alcohol20 and many others from many time but I don't know if the PS2 console has a multi format DVD drive or a'+' or a '-'.

It depends on how old the PS2 is. The older ones can only read DVD-R and the newer ones can read both types. You would be safe with DVD-R on good media such as ritek. The PS2 it is going to be played on has to be modified in some way for both types.

Yes DVD-R would be the way to go... Use Good Media and in order to play the backup make sure your friend knows he will need either a Modchip installed or Swapmagic with a Fliptop or Slidecard (Fliptop Highly recomended)

need any info on these things check out http://www.clearxbox.com that's where I bought my fliptop.. Very good co to do buisness with...

Good Luck

PS2 by itself can Read DVD-R MOVIES Swapmagic on the other hand is a pressed disc... A Dvd Burner cannot copy certain Pressed Sectors of the disc.. These Sectors are required for it to Boot.. So there for you cannot Burn Swap Magic to A DVD-R or DVD+R and have it boot on its own....
