Hi everybody!
This is my first message!

I've been reading through this forum about this exciting Gamecube world, but I have not been able to see if what I'm going to ask has already been answered or if it's even a nonsense to ask it.
Last week I installed myself a Viper modchip, however, in order to have my back-ups done, I just download them from the emule (which requires lots of time).
However, I'd like to back-up my own because I have many games which I want to be kept in pristine condition.

Can't I try to make my back-ups by using Clone DVD, Alcohol 120% or even Nero software?

Thank you very much!
Regards,
Manete

Hey Manete. I'm actually using a Qoob SX chip myself, but thought I would try to answer your question. I don't believe you can backup your gamecube game discs directly in your PC DVD drive if that is what you are asking. I have read alot of stuff on this forum about it, and it I just don't think it is possible.

In regards to making backups of my games using my Qoob, I have to connect my gameube with a broadband adapter to my router and then from my computer I can download the image to my PC then burn it using one of the burning programs you mentioned.

I know there are other posts on here that explain how to do it with a Viper chip, I believe it's a similar fashion like the Qoob, but you need different software perhaps. Hope that answers your question at least in part. :)

Hi stevetex!
Thanks for your answer.
I've read all about using broadband connections but I think I'm kinda lazy these days to get into a new thing like that.
I've read that Gamecube DVD driver reads discs just it the opposite way that common DVD drives do. I guess that must be the difficulty and the reason why people use the broadband adapter roundabout to get the backup done.
However, it just surprises me to see that there is no software capable to read just "0" & "1" without trying to understand the content. I mean, I'm not a programmer and I have no idea about it, but wouldn't it be possible to make a DVD-reader software that just reads what it finds (0's and 1's) no matter if information was originally written upside-down or by a PC or by a MAC or for a Gcube.
Sure there must be some kind of limitation to it but it's difficult for me to believe that nowadays no-one has made such a "simple?" program...no?
Regaaards!

Ya, I agree with you there, you would think that some kind of software would be able to decode that. I guess it must be a hardware thing of some kind. I have a Xbox with a modchip as well, and it does the same thing when I backup my games. You cannot read the Xbox discs on the PC directly, you have to read them from from your PC, FTP into the Xbox and then download them to your computer. I also have a PS2 with a modchiop and you can plop those games right into your PC DVD Drive and it reads them just fine. I guess since Xbox and Gamecube came after PS2, they were able to implement better security.
