Hi,
I have just installed xp pro and now i want every codec but
i only want one codec for one format not 3-4 codecs for one format
Can anyone tell me which is the best list of codecs for every audio/video format.

Your goals are somewhat conflicting. If you want every codec then obviously you are going to have some duplications. Like XviD and DivX are both MPEG-4 video codecs.

Why do you want every codec anyway? and do you really expect someone to list all video/audio/container codecs/filters/decoders? That would be one long list containing a lot of old redundant stuff.

If XviD and DivX are both mpeg-4 codecs then why XviD is a different website all together.why are people downloading two mpeg codecs.
why?????????????
I'll tell you why, because with DivX codec one cant convert or mess with XviD file one can just play it.(which i am not 100% sure thats why i asked you the "experts".
Answering my second question like k-lite codec list which is availalobe here:http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
One so called expert just have to copy and paste this and edit unnecessary codecs and give me answers.
I am using afterdawn from last 1 and half years and i never got a decent answer which could solve my problem.
goodbye forever.

That is hardly a list of everything. klite provides filters and decoders for a lot of stuff, but nothing close to everything.

You said one codec per format. So that means one ASP MPEG-4 codec... so either XviD or DivX.

I never said that XviD and DivX were the same. Just that they were both MPEG-4 Video codecs. If DivX can play XviD then it can also convert it, since decoding is decoding. Problem is that I don't think DivX VfW decoder handles XviD's FourCC. XviD on the other hand handles DivX and DX50 via both dshow and VfW.

ffdshow also handles both and via libavcodec can also output MPEG-4 video.

XviD
That's what I have installed and I haven't had issues playing files of hearing them.
