I am at a loss to figure out why certian movies just will not duplicate no matter what software I use and the most common error to blame is the gawd aweful "cyclic redundancy check" as well as "invalid file size" among others. I once posted here about uncopyable dvd's and someone boasted that "there is nothing that can't be duplicated using one software or another", Well, I have "shrink, clone dvd2 and x copy plat. and no matter what, some movies just won't duplicate... I use 2 different pc's, a tower with a 4x and a notebook with an 8x. The same software is installed on both..

What can I do?

What movies are you trying to do? CRC errors in Shrink are usually caused by damaged disks, or protection that Shrink cannot handle. Invalid file size error in CloneDVD can be caused by the same thing. Are you using DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD for breaking copy protection? Also, have you tried cleaning these disks, or returning them for another original?

the latest that is going afoul is XXX State of the Union and I tried it with all three programs and with two sepperate DVD's. It's certianly not dammage on the disc.. Last week it happened wit the new Will Smith movie (i think it's called "HITCH")

Every once in a while I get this problem and so I attempt to use several programs and they all fail...

Those movies are being troublesome for a lot of people because of the protection. I used Decrypter and had no problem, however it does not work for all. Try the 21 day trial of AnyDVD and CloneDVD from http://www.slysoft.com or the free DVDFabDecrypter available from http://www.filepedia.com. Look under rippers. Or you can try DVD43 also free and available from filepedia.

Oh
I use all of the above
shrink (and for some reason, I can no longer use decryptor as a burn tool with shrink v3.1.6, it only opts for Nero as it seems wit all new versions of shrink) but yes, decryptor is installed as well as any dvd,,, I don't think is't a typical cause maybe a new type of ecryption...

The latest version of DVD Shrink is over a year old, it's 3.2.0.15, you can burn with Decrypter with this version. Do you have the latest DVD Decrypter, it's 3.5.4.0. I ripped with Decrypter had no trouble with either of those movies. You can't be certain the dvd is not damaged. A dvd may look clean, have no scratches but could still be damaged from a bad press from the factory. I'm not boasting but it is true that every dvd can be backed up. AnyDVD, CSS+Region Free, DVD Decrypter and DVDFab Decrypter can pretty much rip any dvd known to man, for sure the 2 movies you mentioned

Both mentioned movies were copied with AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2 with no undue problems during or after the process.

@joebarby

Go back and read the guides for these programs, I think you have some settings wrong, you must have enable burning with Nero checked in your preferences and you are not telling it to burn with Decrypter. Also, check and make sure you have the most recent versions. Go to this site everything is available inclucing the guides.

JoeBarby & ArnieBear were having a discussion about the software PROGRAMS that would FIX the problem with CYCLIC REDUNDANCY, which we all DVD enthusiasts face nowadays with the Copy Protection ?FRENZY?...
Anyway, I have the solution, only if you?re willing to give up the menus, and eventually create your own, or just skip that part completely. There?s a wonderful software called: TMPGEnc DVD Author, which can be downloaded as a 30 day Trial from this website: http://www.pegasys-inc.com/
This software will definitely resolve your issue with CYCLIC REDUNDANCY, guaranteed. Because I was faced with the same problem just couple of days ago, and I tried all the software that ArnieBear has offered us so generously, (Thank You) but non of them worked, so I kind of stumbled upon this discovery myself. I?m not gonna say 100% but 99.9% for sure that this software will do it!.. GOOD LUCK!..

My DVD Player which?s: Allegro DVD Recorder/VCR Combo (ABR521), played all of my PAL DVD?s, until I purchased this DVD made in Russia, embedded with Region 5 CODE. Does anybody have any ideas of how I can FIX this problem, or more accurate question would be IF I can FIX this PROBLEM... Copying is NOT an option because it has ?severe? Cyclic Redundancy? issues, and I really want to watch it on TV in its original version, with all the menus preserved.
Anybody Please HELP!.. It would be greatly appreciated... THANX...

thanks for the input y'all

I installed the latest shrink, decryptor, any dvd and clone dvd2, and there seems to be no more crc errors so far but there some other weird things are turning up on the final burns

copied and burned with shrink/decryptor and/or nero

1. unrequested subtitles (which can be shut off) appear on some copies

2. periodically sound and picture come out "out of sync" (but seem to play on the computer dvd and hard drive files alright)

and when using any dvd with clone dvd2 I never know which audio streams to select if there are more than one and which "main movie titles" to select if there are more than one. I have ruined discs and waisted many hours ending up with directors comentaries. I usually just prefer to burn the main feature and am affraid to leave off the menues and unknown audio streams for fear of ending up having to watch the hard drive files with my viewer to verify and/or recopy a messed-up burned dvd when I should be able to make my selections and walk away and let my pc do the rest... As a result I usually opt to use shrink/re-author and set it to disable all subpicture What to do?

When you go to backup just select the 6 channel streams. Usually the directors comments are in the 2 channel. If you dvd player has an audio button on the remote try hitting that and see if the regular movie audio comes on. I have found this works. You can use the video preview to decide which to select but when you go into Clone and just select backup movie titles it will pretty much pick the correct one. Which movies are you having difficulties doing?

Me again with another snag!

As mentioned, I installed all the newest versions of shrink, decryptor, any dvd and clone dvd2 and the cyclic redundancy check problem from those dvd's last week ended UNTIL NOW with a flick called "Be Cool" with Trivolta (a sequal to "Get Shorty"). And now those CRC errors are back. I tried Clone2, Shrink, Colne dvd (not related to Clone DVD2), and even installed a new one called DVDFab; I tried Ripping the entire disc (uncumpressed) to the HD using decryptor and my entire (sizable) arsonal of rippers, and they all either failed with Errors (CRC, and "Folating Stack Check" another name for CRC I assume) or else the program just stalls, quits or even locks-up and once my pc even just shut-down... The DVD "Be Cool" has been on the market for two months and maybe it's just another attempt to cut "US" out of the loop!

Is there a way arround this one or will I have to wait for a new version to crack another new encoding method?

I am going to seek out some new rippers and see if there is anything interesting lerking in the shaddows out on the www... I haven't checked out rippers since I downloaded dozens over a year ago. I have become complacent with shrink and clone2 and may be missing something hot and new (not talking about the DVDFab which seems to try to mimmic shrink a bit but is missing a key user option "disable all sub-picture")

I'm open to try-out new pgm's...

All I can say is that the movie Be Cool has no special protection I did it with Decrypter and Recode2. Maybe the disk you got is a bad press or has a scratch or other non-visible imperfection. You can try Intervideo DVDCopy3 with AnyDVD running the background it will rip and burn and has a free trial.
