I am also having the same problem. I bought gameshark 5.1 and tried to use the no modchip switch but i cant open the top of the cd tray without the cd tray messing up.

UMM I think that ver 5.1 is too new... try an older gameshark... i think the new gamesharks keep the disks spinning, so you cant swap...

abyss1225 you are absolutly right, the disk dosen't stop spinning...action replay does the same thing....I think, it might be a Version 4 (or lower) Game Shark that you need....

because i think you will need to do like me... and buy a flip top instead of magic switch .... so that way you will be able to press the eject so the disk stop spinning.. then insert swap magic then swap with backup

PS2 PsTwo Slimline (V12)
Fujifilm/RIDATA DVD-R 1x-8x 4.7GB
Swap magic 3.6 + AR MAX EVO + Flip Top

(i believe this thread was for loading WITHOUT swap magic) but anyway .... you should try using version 2 of gameshark... anything that came out before 2001 will work i think. I know for a fact it will work for burned psx games (if the games are EXACT copies) but i still have yet to discover the trick for ps2.

Yes I found out that Gameshark 5.1 doesn't allow the disc to stop spinning therefore not allowing the swap card and trick to work therefore now im stuck with gs 5.1 and I have no real excuse for returning it.

Can't you just use a hacked copy of the Gameshark? There's a version that doesn't require the memcard dongle/just uses a regular 8MB right?

Also, do I need Gameshark v4 or v3? I see a lot of v3 floating around as well, and I dunno why people would have them instead of v4, if v4 was the latest that worked for swapping PS1 games?

Yeah. I found a Gameshark v2.01 at the pawn shop, and decided to back it up since 2.01 is pretty rare and I don't wanna lose it, is that early enough?

Modchip sites always give different instructions for v1.99/2.00 than for v2.01+, but does 2.01 stop spinning right after GS loads?

How long do I have to wait for it to stop spinning? 5 sec? 10 sec? 15+ sec?

I just use LaunchELF for PS2 games, but need GS to run PS1 backups/imports.

PS2 without modchip, Using GS/AR/Swap Magic with Swipe/Slide Card or Flip Top, PS2 DVD backup booting

1. Have AR/GS dongle in a memory card slot (if needed by your disc)
2. Power on your PS2
3. Insert AR/GS/SM* disc, press Reset
4. At the AR2/GS2 menu, press EJECT
5. Swap AR/GS disc for an Original-TOC-DVD* and wait 10 seconds
6. Select "AR/GS Codes"
7. Highlight "Add new code" and press X to get to the next screen
8. Press X three times. You will see "Updating code list please wait" each time)
9. Press "Start" on controller
10. Select "Without codes", press X
11. Press X again, you will see "Updating code list please wait"
12. You will hear Original DVD stop spinning
13. You will have about 10 seconds to do the following 2 steps
14. Immediately after disc stops spinning open Flip Top or use Swipe/Slide Card to open PS2 tray
15. Close Flip top or Use Swipe/Slide Card to close PS2 tray then press X
16. Screen will change and game will now boot

* Note - For Swap Magic just insert the DVD boot disc, press Reset and when "Insert Disc" is shown on screen use Swipe/Slide Card for swap and follow on screen directions.

* Note - "Original-TOC-DVD" is an original DVD that is a larger file size than the backup

* Note - For a shortcut make a few ?Add new codes?, or use any title you know you don?t need (you can always reset the dongle) and after step 6 just highlight one of the ?newly? added codes or unnecessary ones and press square to delete it, then proceed on with step 9.

*Important* You have to have the correct version of AR/GS in order to boot backups

i've followed all of this and it tries to load the back-up,but i get the red screen and please insert ps or ps2 disk.

Is this still with a older version if gameshark because with an older version you are unable to press the eject button on the ps2???

Also does anyone know if it would work to create an exploit cd then tranfer the files onto a memory card on a modded ps2 and then use the memory card on a non modded ps2 ro get the same outcome..??

ok i did some research and im back... now first is first... if you hope on ever doing the gameshark trick you may NOt use anything over version 2. nextly... if you hope on playing without mem card trick good luck... i still cant do it. next... to play psx games (and MAYBE ps2 games.. not sure) you have to simply go to start without codes, swap and press x... if the screen turns black your game is loading... now although it does the same with ps2 games... i dont think it will work... WORK STUDYING FOR ME!!! anyway... i must know if this trick will work with exact copies of ps2 games

anyway... if someone can figure out a way to do this trick WITHOUT swap magic, mem card trick, please tell me. also if someone can tell me how to do the GS/AR mem card trick, i would liek that too ^_^ (ideas... so many ideas)

thanks..

you need gameshark v2 and a swap card and you can make one out of an old credit card find the template using google. Now when you boot gameshark and press start without codes then use the swap card to move the white tab underneath the cd drive careful not to shock yourself. and manually pul out the drive and change discs push the drive back in and press x. never press eject.
