I connect to Kazaa, download for a while, but then the "connected" message changes to "connecting...". The downloads still carry on for a while, but eventually stop (i.e. "searching").

Kazaa needs to be disconnected, then reconnected in order for the downloads to start up again... this is doing my head in as I leave the house during the day, and would like to have files downloaded by the time I return.

I may have solved the Kazaa disconnecting problem - well, I left the house this morning, and on return, Kazaa is still connected and the download is almost finished :)

I went to dietk.com and downloaded dietk 2.0 RC1, installed, then downloaded RC2 and unzipped into the DietK folder in Program Files.

Has anyone else had this problem?

are you running a firewall?? depending upon which one, if you are, there are multiple settings that can block kazaa from staying connected and/or permanently dissable it... oh, and is it normal kazaa or kazaa lite?

once i know I might have a fix for it:)

Thanks for the reply... I'm running a firewall called "Outpost" and also, Kazaa Lite is installed. I used to run diet Kaza, and the same thing happened then... so it may be the firewall?

Thanks... HUTCH.
p.s. My brother has the same problem, but not as often as me, but he isn't using a firewall.

Just to let you know that I found someone else who had the problem and told me that the fix is in the firewall...

You have to make a rule for the Kazaa application and "deny" the ip addresses between 198.82.0.0 and 198.82.255.255 and it's sorted!

If you would like more info on how to do it, reply here.

The fix I said about the IP addresses that you have to deny through the firewall works sometimes (i.e. Kazaa stays connected for a while), but I still have problems with it.

On another forum I visited, a member explained that he changed the port access which solved the problem, but I was unable to gather further information as the thread was too old, and had been stopped.

Hopefully, someone will know what I'm talking about and will tell me what I have to do :)

Thanks for the interest and please keep your ears open for a fix!

well hopefully most of yous know about kazaalite. if not i want to educate the ones without this knowledge. well as you all know kazaa is a p2p file sharing service (peer 2 peer) where you can download almost anything as long as someone else out there in the world has it and is sharind it. although it is a great program itself it can be better. thats y there is new hacks out the for it. the main perks of these hacks are that they close all the ad-ware and spy-ware programs that kazaa brings. it gives you a permanent participation level of k-lite master (1000) aka "supreme being". now when you have a participation level of 1000 youll find yourself not getting bumped off to other users so much (getting those irritating "more sources").
http://kazaa.infos-du-net.com/
now the reason you get bumped off is because kazaa promotes file sharing, so it doesnt matter if your sharing a lot of files(you can be sharing tens of thousands of files) you have to be sharing files that people want. so the more uploads you get the better participation level you get thus the beter downloads you get. now kazaalite skips all this bull shit. and gives you a permanent participation level of 1000. if everybody used kazaalite the world would be such a better place. more downloads, faster downloads, etc. i could go more in dept about kazaa but i dont know if everybody wants to read about it. so i deeply encourage everyone to get kazaalite. and for those first time users try out kazaa first. heres the link for kazaa lite++

Write Back! Tell me if you liked it, if you already use it, if you dont like it, y u like it or dont, if you know any better ones out there, if you dont agree with what i said, or if you do, tell me i'd like to know. If the world used klite++ it would be such a better place!!!!

I switched to Kazaa Lite hoping to fix this problem. It did NOT fix the problem. Usually within 10 minutes, I will lose all my connections in K-L and I will be unable to connect again. This problem also causes me not to be able to connect to the internet via IE6 in any other browswer window. I lose connectivity to the internet entirely. In order to get it back, I have to reboot AND reset my stupid NetGear EA101 USB ethernet adapter by unplugging it and plugging it back in.
I had this problem with Kazaa v2.0.2 also and then I ran spybot to get rid of the spyware. I wasn't running any anti-virus software at the time either so that isn't the problem. After uninstalling Kazaa and installing K-L and removing the spyware, adding the DHCP registry fix for ReleaseLeaseOnShutdown, I still have the problem. I even tried running an auto-pinger to keep the connection (eventhough I doubted it would work) and I'm still frustrated. I'm running through a USRobotics router and a ZyXel SPRINT DSL modem and Earthlink is my ISP. I don't have ANY problem with accessing the internet with IE6 and staying connected for the entire day. Only when I run Kazaa-Lite, then BOOM disconnected after about an average of 2 to 5 minutes! I'm running Windows98 SE 4.10.1998 on an AMD K6 II 400MHz machine that I built myself with an ASUS P5 motherboard. Anybody want any more specifics in order to help me and others out, let me know. I would also like to mention that before I switched to DSL, I had a 56K dialup and I NEVER had this disconnection problem. If someone figures this out, they're going to be a hero!
Thanks... and I'm still trying to figure out what it is and if I get mine stable, I'll be back to repost.

Good News! At least for me and I really do hope for a whole bunch of others too! Go to the Kazaa Lite page http://doa2.host.sk/ and to the FAQ section and click on the Installation section which will take you to the FAQs for that. Specifically "My Kazaa Lite crashes after a while." After clicking there, scoll down to the bottom of the page you were taken to and it explains that Windows is the culprit (I was suspecting this all along!) I'd cut and paste it here, but the page won't allow it. So, I'll type it in as accurately as possible in case anyone has trouble getting to that page or in case it vanishes for some reason.
"Are you using Windows 95, 98 or ME? If so, those OS's can only handle a limited number of simultaneous connections to the internet. Each program that you have running that connects to the internet uses on or more of these connections. You have to reduce the amount of connections, so that your OS won't crash anymore. You can do that by closing down as many unneeded programs as possible. More importantly: Limit the number of simultaneous downloads in Kazaa Lite. Also disable all tools that search for more sources (Speed Up, DietK, Kazap, etc.) This will hopefully solve your problem."
"Another possible reason for instability can be a too low amount of available system resources and internal memory. Kazaa Lite uses a lot of system resources. Specifically when you edit file details in the My Kazaa Lite window. So whenever you have edited a lot of file details, it is a good idea to restart Kazaa Lite, always minimize it to systray if you aren't using it. That will save resources too. Best is to put it on another window as the traffic view first. Restarting Kazaa Lite once in a while can help much."
"If you have less than 128MB internal memory, you might want to consider adding some extra memory. This will improve the speed and stability of some programs. Besides memory is very cheap at the moment."
Those three paragraphs I am assuming are copyright property of the Kazaa Lite site so I must state that.
I also thank them for putting out something that kicks Kazaa's butt!
I now know that I was having problems because after installing Kazaa Lite, I upped the number of simultaneous downloads in the options page. When I was using my dialup and having no problems, Kazaa was at its default low setting. Then I upped it in Kazaa and started to have problems and didn't relate the two. Then I switched to Kazaa Lite and upped it to the max and that's when I couldn't even stay connected for more than 10 minutes. I backed it way down (to 5) and also limited the number of sources per download. And VOILA, I've been connected for almost three hours since then and I expect that it should stay stable. If not, I'll be back for a repost. Good luck one and all! Sorry, if I got a little verbose...but I just wanted to get as much information out to y'all as possible. And I have had 512MB installed before and since so limited RAM was not my problem, but it might be yours.

I've found a solution! It's called bugger Kazaa and install eMule :-D

I've been using eMule for 3 days now and it has NEVER disconnected!!! It downloads at a good speed better average than Kazaa... it tells you how many people are online that have the file you are looking for, puts you in a queue to connect to them and then tells you how many people you are actually connected to. Yesterday I downloaded over 100MB on my 56K modem :) I went out during the day too :) no worries about coming home to a disconnected kazaa... eMule is class.

Here's the website where you can download eMule...
http://www.emule-project.net
or direct download here...
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/emule/eMule0.26d-Installer.exe?download

And here's the website to add servers to eMule... by clicking the "Add to eMule" link while eMule is running, it will automatically insert them - I use "Best Servers".

Hope you find it as useful as me :-D
