Ive been out of the PS2 scene for about 2 1/2 years now due to my box getting stolen and not wanting to reinvest for all the mods i lost. Anyways, Im fixing to buy a new one and noticed that now all they are selling is this new slim version with the netcard built in. Does it have the spot for the Harddrive in it and can it be modded to allow me to boot off of a harddrive. To be honest I didnt realize that booting off a harddrive was possible on the ps2 till i read a thread here. I have a fully modded xbox and I plan on modding my ps2 to the max aswell so i want one that will allow the most. So what limitations does this new model pose against the original?

Thanks for anyhelp.

The normal PS2 (the bigger ones) can be equiped with a HDD, but you need a network adapter. with the smaller one (the slim) you need to get this item called HDConnect, and you have to solder some things and it will let you connect a normal ide hdd, and you will need a cd to boot, its called HD Advance, but with a DMS4 Pro/Lite chip, i think it will let you boot from the HDD without the disc, but you have to update the flash thingy. The bigger ps2s are more stable, they have bigger fans and they dont heat up that much....plus in the slim ones there are poblems with the laser, so you have to buy a lser fix or somekind of fix for it....if i was you id get:

PS2 V7
DMS4 Pro
HDD (Needs an extra Network Adapter)
and thats it...but i dont think you can save to the hdd (game saves) you can put games onto the hdd, but not the games saves, i think...not sure.

Sony PS2 (Playstation 2) Slimline (V12) GH-035-71

I would strongly advise that you get a used PS2 (preferably V7 or V8) and a used Ethernet adapater. This should cost you about $120 shipping included. Then use a good quality modder if you do not like surprises. That should cost you around $120 so the total is $240 which is still not too bad.

I got both now. Bought the slimline and got a few things to work through AR Max Evo, but went ahead and got a V7 off ebay to mod.
