I am having a LOT of trouble burning discs with both of my 1.8 Ghz iMac G5's (single-layer SuperDrive). I'm hoping that the problem is with the media. I am using Velocity 4x DVD-R.

WHAT brand is everyone else is using? Especially other iMac G5 owners?

WHERE is the best (cheapest) place to buy them?

These are the steps I take in burning my discs:
1) I use MacTheRipper on the original,
2) I then use DVD2oneX to compress,
3) I then use Toast to burn the data.

The burning works until about the last few minutes and then I get a "Hardware Error".

Thanks for your help.

verbatim... verbatim... verbatim

this is the ghost of media... dont buy cheap media! stay away from memorex... oooohhhhh.... buy verbatim... verbatim...

lol..

all joking aside.. dont mess with cheap media.. verbatim is great media.. i prefer the branded ones.. that way you know they're good.
prices on verbatim are pretty much the same all around..

pack of 50 dvd blanks - 25-30

the cheap media is not worth it... its not worth it in the long run.

as far as the hardware fail message.. are you able to burn cds?
if not.. it may just be the burner.. of course... try different media... i'm not sure how good that brand is... maybe other ppl here can shed some light on the subject.

if it does turn out to be ur burner... i'm hoping you're still under the 1 year warranty.. or you did buy your applecare extended..

i get calls of ppl needing it... at that point.. i know there is something wrong with the computer... all i tell them.... "you never know"

go to www.supermediastore.com (read some of the customer comments)

i'm on my second order with them and have had nothing but great luck. if you do a forum search you'll find that a lot of people also like ritek and taiyo yuden. i've burned over a hundred taiyo yuden disks (4x dvd-r's) and haven't had a single coaster yet. and yes memorex does stink of failure.

ritek arita 4x dvd-r= 26.99 for 100
ritek ridata 8x dvd-r= 31.99 for 100
taiyo yuden 8x dvd-r= 36.99 for 100
taiyo yuden 4x dvd-r= 33.00 for 100

depending on where you live this last order ran me around 5.00 to ground ship. which is ok since sales tax is .06 where i live and gas is around 2.50/gal ..... so there is my $5.00

VELOCITY? Never heard of them. They're probably made by someone else. They may be the "B Stock" of some better company who needs to get rid of their junk.

Ritek
Taiyo Yuden
