Abot half of the times I load a dvd in my drive the computer locks up.
Autoplay is off. Any ideas

How stable is your RAM (Memory)? You might want to take your RAM out and rub an eraser along the bottom edge of it; the edge that is seated in the Motherboard slot. Blow off the residue and put it back in then boot up.

I think another issue could be the amount of your RAM. If your free memory count is low you may want to stop other processes and applications from running that are not needed and see what happens.

i will try cleaning the contacts, however I am sure that I have enough ram. I have 1,500 meg of DDR 2 ram

You may want to look at your power. Are you overloading your power supply? If you have a lot of devices (more than your power supply can handle) it could cause lock ups, frequent shutdowns, data loss and probably more if not corrected. Just a thought.
