hi, i use dvd shrink and then use copytodvd to burn movies. it works great. the problem is, whenever i have a burn fail and i want to try reburning, it won't let me. i start copytodvd and click on dvd video. i get an error message: copytodvd manager : "cannot connect to hardware access layer". i can see the manager in the background, but the error shuts it down. i am not too sure why i can't access the manager. i also cannot access that program blindwrite. the blindwrite program complains it needs pc-couffin or something like that. this pc coffin might be the problem why both programs are not working just right. i guess pc coffin is a driver of some sorts. where can i download it and what version should i look for? thank you

i went to "check" and it says none was installed, so i clicked remove anyway. i restarted and then installed both ways. by clicking the install on the coffin program that i downloaded and by clicking the install in the "start, program, vso, Patin-Couffin,drivers, install" and both times. it starts to install and halfway though it stops for a few seconds then contines. it says it was installed and reboot. i checked to see if it was installed and it was not, so i restarted to be sure and it was not there. is there a program blocking the install or maybe another driver that is like Patin-Couffin and won't let it install. i am signed in as administrator, so that anin't the problem. win xp home. 3.0.41.75 is the ver. of copytodvd

Go to Device Manager, VSO devices, Patin Couffin engine, at Device Usage it should say "Use this device (enable)". If this doesn't work click the Driver tab above, and Uninstall. Reboot and try to install again.

i did not find vso devices in device manager. i did a search for it on my computer and it did not show up either. i just went to the folder where everything was installed. i seen the old patin couffin software sitting there. i deleated it. i am going to try again with the install. i thought device manager was just for hardware. should vso devices really show up there? i will get right back to you in a min.

dzuldare i read the thread at cdfreaks and there's not much to go on. Try the VSO Inspector. I've installed Patin Couffin engine several times on different systems and upgraded it several times with no trouble. When you try to install what exactly does it say. Maybe try an earlier version to see if that works then upgrade later if needed.

the setup goes well. fast. then a small window pops up and says pcoffin.sys . the blue progress bar gets half way and stops for about 8 seconds. the top blue border of the window then fades to blueish gray. but it is still there and all. then finishes and says it has been installed. and to reboot. i have done this too many times now. oh does DVD43 require pcouffin also. because i have DVD43 and it works great. does that mean the DVD43 is using another type of couffin program. see, what exactly is Patin-Couffin. is it like a image drive or a driver or a program. how do i check and see if i have anything like that. i mean. i have other programs like Nero. Nero might have installed something simialar. but it should not stop me from installing couffin.

From what I understand DVD43 needs Patin Couffin to work. Patin Couffin engine is an access layer some programs need to comunicate to cd/dvd drives. It is similar to ASPI. Is it possible your anti-virus is preventing the install? Have you tried the earlier version, 19.

Try uninstalling and re-installing CopyToDVD. The program includes the PC engine usually it is installed with the program, it must be have been loading if you have been able to burn with it using Shrink. Are you using the latest version CopytoDVD3? Try downloading the program again maybe you got a corrupt download and then install the latest version of it.

As Ppower states close down any antivirus/XP security and then re-install the program.

Hi there,

The latest version of CopyToDVD is v3.0.56

Uninstall CopyToDVD v3.0.41

Install VSO Inspector v1.1, it will also install the latest version of Patin Coffin (v1.28)

Then install the latest CopyToDVD v3.0.56

My 2 cents...

i did try both verions of Patin-Couffin . same negative result with both. i am able to burn dvdrs and cdrs. when i use shrink i put the encoded files into a folder and choose to burn with CopyToDVD. it works. but if i ever want to get into CopyToDVD directly though the CopyToDVD manager it won't let me. the version of CopyToDVD is relitively new. i have a crack for it. if i get the newest verison i won't have a crack. unless it can be updated and still work without the time limit restriction. but i don't know about that. i have tryed having all my virus scaners disabled when i try installing Patin-Couffin. i do have norton ghost running, but that should not effect it. i guess i will try uninstalling and reinstalling the whole CopyToDVD program.

oh and i installed the latest version of vso inspector from the vso website and the couffin did not install once again. the same thing happened as what i decribed above. and i can't even use the program, becasue of the problem. so that's 3 programs that need this couffin : CopyToDVD manager, vso inspector, and Blindwrite.

Sorry dzuldare I don't help with cracks. It's impossible to predict what a crack will do. You get what you pay for

Yep, you get what you pay for. The file in CopyToDVD is PcSetup, which is the Patin-Couffin installation and configuration file. It is the interface to the drives. The version in my latest CopyToDVD is 1.27. Patin-Couffin has been used as the driver interface for a number of software apps. Besides the VSO software, the free DVD43 uses it and I remember the 321 apps used it. The easiest way to get a clean copy is to download the software from the VSO site. Too bad you have a crack. It does sound like corrupted software.

A lot of people aren't aware, but you can open PcSetup and see the drive configuration. With Patin-Couffin driver expanded you can click on the individual drives and then right click and give commands. One is to refresh media detection.

Hello brobear,

I should have known that !

I've just started to use CopyToDVD full time since I bought the GoldenMembership.

I never used the PcSetup tools since I have no problems.
But I will reopen up the tool and pay attention to all the available options.

Thank you !

Hi there,

You don't need to purchase it right away, this is why they offer a trial version.

If your having issues with the Pattin Coffin Driver, I have a feeling you might be having other OS issues ?

I had 0 problems since I've been using VSO Software and ßeta Testing DivXtoDVD v2.00

How did you manage that, mine automatically goes to the ATAPI interface?

19:09:39 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...
That is from the opening of the Decrypter log.

It installs and works well. You may have a problem. So, as mentioned, try the trial first. If you want check the burn capabilities, use the free Decrypter which uses the OS ATAPI interface. Another thing you can try is Nero. It has it's own ASPI interface. The Nero has a trial you can try. Using those apps, see if you're still having the same problems as with CopyToDVD. Normally if a system isn't having problems, CopyToDVD with the Patin-Couffin interface works well. I've had it for a long time and no problems.
