I have tried searching, but couldn't find a solution for this particular problem. I cannot convert certain MPG files using VSO DivxToDVD. It will not add them to the convert list.
Also, the files (2 sets of 2 files) do not play with Media Player, so is that an indication that there is a problem with the files?
If this isn't enough info to help, please let me know, because I would like to figure this out.
Thanks

Drop the input files on AviCodec and post all the info. Most likely you
are missing codecs on your system needed to play and convert the files.

You could just try going to www.free-codecs.com and downloading a big codec pack and see if you get lucky. :)

The big codec pack Miles Ahead is referring to most likely is this one

Now I'm wondering if the files aren't just bad. I downloaded the codec pack first, no luck.
So I tried AviCodec, and it said "Cannot open file....."
Any other ideas, or is it some bum files?

If AviCodec doesn't handle it then it's prolly corrupted. Sometimes downloads show okay going through PAR check but that's because the poster accidentally processed corrupted files so they are indeed exact copies of the no good files posted. :)

Don't hassle with any mega codec packs here. "certain mpg files".. "do not play with Media Player". Most likely these files are MPEG-2 and your system needs MPEG-2 codec installed. Search the web for "mpeg2codec_installer.zip" or Sonic Cinemaster MPEG-2 codec and install one.

I'm not sure stardust, but AVICodec shouldn't tell you that the file is corrupted, even if you do not have the codec?

I had reinstalled a clean version of XP SP-2 recently with all of my mp2 & mpv files in there, and AVICodec recognized them properly without installing any encoder or codec pack....

I agree. AviCodec just looks at the headers(if the video format uses 'em) or looks at the file stream for mpg type video to figure out what it is. If you don't have the codec on your system then where it tells you what codec is used it says "unsupported".
