I was thinking about a ps2 mod chip because my swap magic 2.0 recently broke down. Sience it cant boot ps1 games and chips can, I was leaning toward a chip.

Now, I have modded my xbox with a sauderless xenium and I installed it in like 5 min. I have NO experience w/ soldering so I want to know is there any ps2 chip that doesn't require soldering??

Although I haven't used it, I would reccomend the DMS4 E.Z.I. solderless chip only becuase this is the only one I have seen that doesn't require boot discs (which won't allow PS1 backups or imports). Go to www.modchip.com and check it out, its the first one on the list, and it does more than play PS1 and PS2 games.

Should be mod-chip.com (notice the " - "). Anyway, you should consider getting Swap Magic 3.6 if you aren't confident to install a chip yourself. SW3 plays all games (though some have to be rebuilt or patched). If you want to Play PS1 games on your PS2 you can also purchase Breaker Pro v1.1. My brother (an electronics engineer)installed my chip (solder version) and he said it was a nightmare to install.

I just looked at www.modchip.com and www.mod-chip.com and they are just about identical; same prices, same shipping. Although if you didn't know already, the packages at www.modchip.com come from Switzerland, so be ready to wait 2-3 weeks with regular delivery.

A lot of good things have been said about www.mod-chip.com. I've purchased from the much maligned divineo on occasion and they're ok in my book.

The DMS4 EZI is indeed no-soldering, but its still more iffy than an xbox mod. Basically there are two chip molds that go right over the bios and cpu. There is a small risk of bending some pins if you aren't careful when putting the molds on.

Mod-chip.com are based in Austria and I am based in Australia. My orders from this place take about 5 working days to get to me. Not bad delivery time I say considering the distance.

No, it only boots PS2 games. For PS1 games, you need a Breaker Pro disc or do a memory card exploit (ex. the CogSwapLoader exploit, with which nobody wants to help me with in this board).

I wasted 2 on games on 3 on the exploit because I thoguht I copied it wrong (and it still doesn't load the game after I swap it), turns out after I PMed L-burna that he says even through all this time the exploit has been in use, it still has problems and the cdloader exploit is better.

Hello everyone I also have a question about mod chips. I'm being told by my friend to buy one from apple-chip.com but I don't know which one to get. My ps2 is a slim one that I received for christmas.

That website is just for Apple Chips which aren't very good. The best chips on the market right now are the Matrix Infinity and the DMS4 (Pro or Lite). If you are looking for something a little cheaper you could get a Duo 2 SE. That is also a very good chip without all the unneeded extras like the Matrix and DMS4.

Can you give me a website to the official company where I can place an order to either of the chips you mentioned?

The makers of the Matrix Infinity or the DMS don't sell direct though you can go to their respective websites where they list their official resellers of their products. For Matrix Infinity resellers try:http://www.infinitymod.com/cgi-bin/matrix/site.pl?page=reseller

DMS4 E.Z.I. is still quite sensitive, and can damage your PS2 if you are not careful. Never purchase a used one. I did ($48), and it ended up frying the DVD portion of my laser. I later found that the DSP clip was broken, so I bought new DSP and BIOS clips ($28). The install was not immediately successful. Although careful, I still ended up with some pins on the DSP clip that were not bent out far enough. That was simple to fix, but required patience to make sure not to break off the pins while bending them out.

Soldering is still more difficult and takes even more patience. I accidently broke off two capacitors in the process of soldering a modchip. The solder points were fine, but without those capacitors the PS2 wouldn't read DVDs. Thankfully, I was able to purchase a used motherboard and I took the capacitors and some fuses off it. I wired them in and the PS2 functioned just fine. I soldered the modchip in first try after that.

The result? 2 modded PS2s and 1 that won't read DVD's (it's shot, laser adjustsments don't help). Could still use the exploit with HDLoader with the 3rd one though ;)....or just replace the laser since the rest of the PS2 is fine.

!!Too many PS2s!!

I'm pretty sure their installation instructions say not to reuse the clips, especially between different PS2s...
