Well, I've done my research and have done backups to HDLoader, DVD backup through DVD Decrypter, rebuilding it via Apache and CDDVDGen, etc. It won't load no matter what I do. I also Have Part 3 and that was flawless (besides the crappy media I burned it too skipping on the movies) but it still worked. I'm about to try a mix of using DVD-RW, higher quality media, and burning at less than 4x speed. Any other recommendations? Thi is the only game that has iven me this many headaches!

Well that explains it! I just birned it on some FujiFilm 4x DVD+RW and that fixed the problem! Man, I wasted so much cheap media today getting it to work. Let this be a lesson to you all...use DECENT MEDIA!

It's the worst kind of figuring it out though. It goes to show that my cheapness surely doesn't pay off when it comes to quality media.

some ps2's will read rw discs, but they are not good for your laser.

I meant +RW. I am as surprised as you are. I also thought that they couldn't read them, but mind did just fine. But like the poster above said, it's not good for the laser. In any case, I reburned it onto some quality DVD-R and also DVD+R just to see which performed better and the -R definetely gets the thumbs up here; although just slightly. The only difference I noticed was that the +R had a startup lag time of nearly 20s whereas the -R botted up almost instantly.

Welp. I have been fooling around with my various backups and I recently got .Hack Infection so naturally I wanted to make sure the original doesn't get scratched so I tried making a backup of that as well. I picked up some TYG01's (Taiyo Yuden's) and tried burning it and nothing! Black screen with CogSwapLoader. Same thing as with my el cheapo media. Does this one need a rebuild? It loaded up fine in HDLoader up to entering The World just like parts 2-4 (stating for reference only) so I know that the game loads fine and the dvd iso was ripped fine.

No this game doesn't need a rebuild or any special procedures. I burnt it and it works fine for me. You'd just be wasting your time with a rebuild

Hmm, then what can it be?I'm thinking it might be the computer in general. I'm using a Lite-On 16x burner, but it's throught a usb2 enclosure. It burned fine before, but since a certain point (about a couple days ago) everything started not working so I guess it is to blame.

When you say it "needed" cd loader, do you mean use that instead of cogswap? I use a hard drive and run all my elfs off of it with the launchelf frontend. Do I boot with the cdloader cd instead and load .Hack Mutation off of that? Or do you somehow incorporate the cdloader image into the dvd itsself?

Sorry, I'm not following. I don't have swap magic, but I still downloaded the CD Loader software burned it on cd and have tried it in the past, but not recently. Will get back once I give that a go. As a side note, I load Swap Magic as an ELF on the hard drive so it should be the same. I have the NTSC version btw and although the site says that it's for the PAL, I dunno. Can someone verify that this is what they have to do to get it to work? Also can you clarify on which options you choose upon bootup? Thanks.

I think you probably need a second opinion, but I thought youd have alot of trouble running swap magic off the hard drive do you have a slide card/fliptop? If not it won't work. You'd be alot better off just booting it off the harddrive.

Haha, a second opinion. Well I have somewhat good news. I ended up trying to use CDLoader like the above poster said liek I've always done:

1) Boot in LaunchElf and run SwapMagic 3.3 CD ELF
2) Refresh TOC and load CD Loader Beta 5.2 CD
3) Load up PS2 DVD
4) Swap with Hack Infection
5) Play

When using CogSwap I have a problem with it not loading, but this method it does work. Go figure? Just that's kind of alot of swapping...

Why not just miss out loading swap magic entirely and just load the cdloader elf?

Actually, that's a great question. I think I got that working at some point, but some of my CD/DVD loader images have multiple numbered elf files inside and I'm not sure how to utilize them. I think I found one to work, but I'll have to double check. If that saves me the trouble, then it's definitely worth it.

On a side note, appreciate the help, but I'm also having a problem with Godzilla: Save the Earth & Goldeneye: Rogue Agent. Do these games need rebuilds or do they just not work? They both freeze on the opening screen where the trademark/loading screens are displayed.

Nevermind on the Goldeneye front! I was able to find a ppf patch that allowed compatibility with HDLoader. One down and one left to go!
