Best modchip for my situation?

I have a NTSC PS2 slim and I am looking for the cheapest method to play PAL games and legal backups. I don't really care about Flash memory or any added extras like that as I am no programmer, and would prefer something solderless. I have been looking at a V12 Slim Kit Pro 3.6 for $34 which includes the latest version of Swap Magic and a kit for the Slim. I am not sure if Swap Magic does Y-fixes, but I also have GS2v4 that can fix that.

Is this the best item to get in my situation, or is there something that works better for less money?

preferably a modchip would be the best, and since the v12 needs a laser fix, but i certainly understand the solderless buisness. i been there myself.

pretty much all mod plays PAL games. not sure about swap discs. never used them.

I have the PAL version of Swap Magic 3.6 and it plays both PAL and NTSC games. Swap Magic plays all games PS2 games (though a few have to be patched or rebuilt). Besides, with a Swap Magic you still keep your $ony warranty.
