Finishing process problems

Sometimes when I am just about to complete the project, the usual step of finishing the dvd does not run long enough to complete the project, even though the burning program (Copy2DVD) says it sucessfully burned the dvd. Then when I go to play it on the stand alone dvd player, the machine says that the disk can not be read. Of all the problems I have had burning dvd's this is my biggest headache. Is there a way to make sure that the finishing task gets completed? I have even unchecked the box that says to eject the dvd when done.

This seems to me like more of a media issue. What type of media are you using and also what speed are you burning at?

8X or 4X speed, media is TDK DVD+R. Most times this is not a problem, but with some movies, I might go through 3 disks before one gets finalized.

A lot of my burns stop finalizing well before 100%, but I think that it just shoots up to 100% in an instant so you will not see it.
You can try downloading DVD Decrypter and testing on an DVD+RW disc to see if it is not finalising. This way you will save some discs. Also, if there is some type of error, it will tell you in the log.
Also, to be safe, burn your movies at 4x or lower.
I think with TDK, there is a 50% chance you have really bad media. You can get a program like DVD Identifier and it will tell you the media code. You can then post it and you will get a reply to the actual media. DVD Decrypter also tells you media codes.
Also, check to see if your burned movies play on your PC. If they do on the PC, but not on the DVD player, then this will also hint to bad media.

Very true. Beware of TDK DVD+R media. You're gambling on getting some garbage cmc mags. Here's some media codes for TDK dvd+r's.
TDK DVD+R 4x (CMC MAG.F01)
TDK DVD+R 4x (RICOHJPNR01)
TDK DVD+R 8x (CMC MAG.E01)
TDK DVD+R 8x (RICOHJPN R02)
Here's the link to dvd identifier. http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ Poor quality media could be the cause of all your problems. Let us know the manufacturer of your TDK's and if they're cmags I recommend trying some better media.

You hit the nail on the head. I found out that the media is CMC Mag E01. AARRGGHH. I have a 50 pack I just bought. You have any recommendations for good media?

Taiyo Yuden all the way! I have memorex and tdk discs less than a year old (before I knew any better) that will still play but are of such poor quality I can't re-copy them. I'm almost through my second spindle of Ty's, and have never gotten such good results with any other media. The best part is they are not that much more expensive than the crap stuff that's out there. Rima.com is a reputable site if you are looking for Ty's online. You won't believe the difference!

The two most recomended medias are verbatum and taiyo yuden. Some other good medias available at local stores are sony, fuji (made in japan), and maxell. As a rule of thumb look for media made in japan with exception of verbatum which is made in taiwan and one of the best medias available. Some reputable online stores are supermediastore.com, rima.com, newegg.com, and meritline.com.
