Sony DVD Direct 16x External USB 2.0 and i.LINK Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive

Model: VRD-VC20
I am thinking about geting this unit to transfer all my HI8 tapes to DVD .Does this unit automatically convert analog to mpeg2 on the fly?Can i take footage off the dvd that i burned from this unit and edit further from my pc.I am mainly concerd to make all my analog to digital as easy as possable.Thanks here it the link
