Pioneer DVD A05 and 3rd Gen Prodisc DVD-R Media

I bought some Prodisc 3rd generation disks and having been trying to use them for the last week without any success. I understood that there may have been a firmware problem so downloaded the firmware to version 1.2.1 but still my DVD recorder refuses to recognise the DVD. All comments and suggestions would be gratefuly received.
