if i tey to burn an mds file with alcohol it just fails right off.. if i use nero it always works but nero doesnt support mds files

no...i decided to use DVD Decrypter to burn the mds and it burns ok but the backup says invalid disc

What game are you trying to Backup? There maybe a fix needed for it... and what Brand of Media are you using? DVD-R or DVD+R some PS2's can't read DVD+R

when you put the backup in the ps2 give it a spin to make sure it is spinnibg freely then closed the lid and try.

Ive noticed that when I had used Nero and opened Alcohol after that, Alcohol didn't want to burn images :P

When I want to use the 120% after Nero, I have to restart windows, really! I've tried it several times
