Does anyone know what kind of media this recorder will burn at 16x with? I have Verbatim -R 8x and I can only record at 8x with them. Is there any media that will work?

I'm using Nero Burning ROM by the way.

You can buy 16X Verbatim at Supermedia store--However, it is not recommended to burn at faster than 4X for video--cuts down on errors and the time saved is not worth the risk--But, the Verbatim are available--I, in fact bought them, but still only burn at 4-6X--Here is the link

My Plextor with firmware 1.0.7 or 1.0.8 will burn Taiyo Yuden 8x +Rs at 16x. I've burned about a dozen at 16x and they all play in my players

Can you explain the slow burn speeds? I've been burning at 8x for about a year now and never noticed a quality problem. I even burned a movie on the 16x media that comes with the drive and it looked great!

Good question---I have also experimented with my new Lite-on model 1673 and have burned at 8X just to see--I did not have a problem--I think it greatly depends on the quality of your media and quality of burner--I have read about problems with higher burning speeds and figure why not slow down--It really does not take that long to burn a 2-3 hour movie--usually less than 35 minutes at 4X--why take the chance of having problems just to save a few minutes--the disks should last a lifetime--why hurry it for a few minutes--Just my personal thoughts--

Ppower What kind of times are you getting at 16x? My Plextor usually starts kicking down and burn times at 16x can actually take longer than my 8x burns which are usually right under 8 min.

Thats damn good. Mine Plex goes crazy at 16x but does fairly well at 12x but great at 8x. You a lucky guy.

I don't backup dvds at 16x. I like to experiment once in a while. I burn at 8x max for my backpus

The Verbatim 16X +R disks that I burned on my Plextor PX-716A at 16X played fine in my standalone player. Just for an experiment I burned the same movie at 4X and at 16X.

16X 4X

PI total 4584 735
PI peak 66 4
PI average 16 1

PIF total 256 23
PIF peak 12 2
PIF average 1 0

Dramatic difference, huh? Even though they play in my standalone, a couple of minutes longer to burn for that many less errors is a good trade-off.

That didn't look right worth a dang! I had it all set up in 2 columns and it looked great. Oh well... You can see the first number is at 16X and the second number after the space is at 4X.

You certainly get a better burn at 4x vs 16x no doubt about it. Like I said I never backup dvds at 16x, it's only an expirement.
