Purple/blue DVD-Rs? Will they stress the lens on my PS2?

I got Memorex DVD-Rs Not + version. For my backups. The bottom of the disc is purple, will this put stress on the lens? Or is it the just the same as any other DVD-ROM that the industries use for the original game.

all of the dvd+/-r's that i have seen have the blue/purple type bottoms. they are not silver like dvd movies and games are. dvdr's will put more stress on the laser than the original's but that is more due to the burning process than the bottom color of the dvd.

ps2 games are pressed discs not burned. so when you burn a backup of a ps2 game, the laser has a harder time reading it. so a new good laser will last for a long while with a good modchip but not as long as if you only played ps2 originals. plus, playing dvd movies seems to shorten the laser life.

Oh, I see. Well incase my Laser-lens does wear down to the poin of not working anymore, how much would a new one or repairing it cost?( USD terms)

yours should last a good while as long as it isn't 5 yrs old or older. although some laser are just bad.

i would get a new one and heck w/ fixing it. but thats up to you.

a new one costs around $60 or so. actually i think i got mine for $55 w/ free shipping. refurb lasers, which i heard bad things about cost around $35.
