I've searched everywhere, but none of the Infinity-related messages seem to help me in my case, so I'm going to try my own thread.

I recently bought a pre-modded PS2 with the Infinity Homebrew. I've been trying to flash it with a new version of the firmware to no avail. I don't think it's a Modbo, since those tend to present themselves as Infinity v1.38 (mine displays 1.33 on boot). It's a slim PSTwo, v12, so it has no blue light.

I've burnt copies of the 1.36 firmware (I didn't know whether I could flash from 1.33 directly to 1.54) using both Nero and Alcohol120 on two different types of CD-Rs. I've been burning the images from the CUEs, so I haven't been using the BINs by mistake or anything.

I do the whole "from standby, hold the reset button for three seconds" thing, but I only get one of two results: 1) I hold it too long and it goes back into standby, or 2) It just goes to the standard start-up, then goes to the browser, displaying my memory card and the disc I put in. Even when I try to select the disc from the browser, the screen goes black for a couple of seconds, then returns to the browser screen again. Am I holding the button too long/short? Is there something else I should be pressing to load it up? Should I try some different burning software?

Weird. Try skipping 1.36 and going straight to 1.54. Make sure you follow the instructions on the Matrix Site.

Put Upgrade CD into PS2 and put PS2 into standby.
Press "reset button" and keep pressed until blue light turn ON (on V1-V11).
(For the V12 press reset button from standby for 2-3 seconds as there is no blue light).
Leave "reset button" and Upgrade CD will boot.
Follow on-screen instructions to complete the Upgrade procedures.

I don't think the Infinity HB firmware even uses the same numbering system (e.g. the latest HB firmware is 'v2' or something). On the other hand, modbos have been known to come with Infinity 1.33 firmware (just search "modbo 1.33" on google).

You might also contact Infinity Team for some advice too. Can't post email addresses on the forums, but just go to www.infinitymod.com/ and it should be on there. I'd advise against opening the pstwo to physically check the installed chip, as that might void whatever warranty you have with who you purchased it from.

I'm pretty sure my chip is a Modbo now. I was able to boot up a couple of PS1 imports without flashing the chip at all. I had tried once before, but it didn't load so I assumed it needed the new firmware.

This kinda sucks, but at least it'll do what I need it to. :-/

It should play all originals and imports, right?

Thats rather unfortunate news. I hope whoever sold you the premod will offer you a refund or install a real Matrix in your system. Make sure you don't attempt to change any settings in the config menu either, since that will permanently disable your Modbo.

yeah, it should be able to play all originals and (almost) all back ups.
