I have this big big problem. I use virtualdub to rip the audio out and I compressed it into a mpeg 4 compression v3. I then used tmpgenc and I made a mpeg out of it!! The problem is that the movie is only like 1 hour and 6 minute long and it takes up 3.80-4.5 gb of space. I am trying to make a series into DVD and I don't think I can use all 20 discs to complete the episodes. Is there anyway that I can shrink it? What would my video bitrate be in order to put 2 hours of video on the dvd? Please help.

It´s no problem...

You need an authoring tool such as TMPG DVD Author to place episodes on the project. Then compile the project but DO NOT burn right away.
Open your compilation with DVD Shrink and the program automatically will make it fit on a 4.3 GB disc. After that burn with Nero (or other tool)

About bitrate, as a rule of thumb it´s best to keep bitrate BELOW 6000 bps (otherwise your player most likely will choke with it). There´s an online calculator at http://www.videohelp.com which can help you determine the most appropriate bitrate for your project.

Cheers

Why did you compress it to mpeg4 first? Why didn't you compress the file straight to mpeg-2 with TMPG?

For 2 hours of video onto one dvd, assuming your audio bitrate was 320 kb/s it would be 4777kbps. So if I were you using TMPGEnc (which I don't it's too damn slow, prefer CCE anyday) this is what my settings would be..

2 pass VBR
Average bitrate:4777
Max bitrate:9000
Min bitrate:500
audio bitrate:320

Although honestly, if you're not a quality freak you could just use DivxtoDVD to convert a bunch of your episode files into DVD files, then use DVDShrink to shrink them. That would save a lot of time+steps.
