mobile phone tools download and unlock v400?

hi all,
i have a v400 and just got a data cable from ebay. wonder how and where i can download mobile phone tools? also any way to unlock the v400?

hi i downloaded mobile phone tools from limewire file sharing program (limewire.com), but i think i also saw links for it on many other pages if you dont feel like downloading limewire first. do a search for "motorola mobile phone tools download" (the newest version is 3.0 i think) and check all the sites that the search lists for links to downloads. i have the v400 and am now looking for how to unlock it. i will let you know what i find. mobile phone tools is fun, i hope you find it. my cable also came with a free cd with an older version of mobile phone tools on it.

ok so i read all the info i could find in here about unlocking and it seems to me the best way is to follow the "MOTOROLA HACKER'S GUIDE" that is in the stickied topics in the motorola forum here. You have to download some programs and get a cable to access your phone from your computer. I already had the cable and Motorola Phone Tools, so I am off to a good start. I will let you know my progress but its going to be one of these things that takes a lot of reading and downloading/installing to learn how to make my phone my ho and do what I tell it without having to slap it around :)

the easiest way to get your phone unlocked is to call your service provider give them your imei # and ask them for the subsity code. its free

i am not sure what my imei # is, do you know where i would find that? Also, if they unlock it, do I assume I still need to get rid of all the branding on it myself? thanks!

got this from the internet:

* IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is the unique 15-digit serial number of your mobile phone. You can read your IMEI number by pressing *#06# on the keyboard of your mobile phone or you can read it on a sticker under the battery.
