Yes it is possible to mod the PS2 version... kinda. The only things I've managed to change are the car colours, car statistics, weapon stats and I'm working on changing the files for the radio stations to your own MP3's.
You need the original DVD, and a PS2 with either either Swap Magic, Mod Chip or Hard Drive.
To mod the game you need to copy the contents of the DVD to your PC's hard drive, but as files and folders instead of an ISO. Mod the handling.cfg, etc with the stat editors for the PC version. Then use nero to compile an ISO. Be sure to use the disc label SAN_ANDREAS. Then either burn the moded version or put it on your HD as a seperate version to your Un-Moded version.
If any of the people who make the TXD editors notice this post, would it be possible to make the next TXD editor compatible with the PS2's TXD format? That would ROCK, it would also breath new life into my PS2 like nothing before!
Does anyone know of other games that can be moded on PS2???
Me: Ethernet Addapter, 80g Toshiba HD, HD-Advanced, Flip-Top Case (Also Slide Tool, Swapmagic v3.3/3.6)
Our Kid: PS2 v12 Slim: Slimtool, Swapmagic v3.3/3.6

That's funny spam banjo, anyone with any knowledge of ps2's could tell you that adding content to ps2 games CANNOT BE DONE.
Then again, seeing as you already posted another Bullsh*t thread, you're probably into that kinda thing huh?

I'm so so so so sorry, but you are wrong mr Dan.
You sure as hell can modify SOME of the game aspects.
I found it impossible to mod the vehicles, or any of the other models for that matter, (OH HAVE I TRIED!!!) as all of the TXDs in the 'GTA3.img' file must be of a different format for the PC (the TXD Workshop cough up errors on PS2 versions anyway!!!)
It is however, possible to change the car stats and car colours in GTA:SA using Spam's method. you can even use the PC car stat editor (FOUND ON GOOGLE before you all ask, lol) It just takes forever riping and changing and re-building and burning and BLAH.
His method is the tried and tested method used from the launch of GTAIII... which by the way, as with Vice City, can also be modified in this way. If you put GTAIII in your PC and browse the contents, you'll see that the PS2 version is structured in much the same way as the PC... even down to the fact that opening the handling.cfg file presents you with not only car statistics, but a basic guide to changing the stats by hand (As with the PC version). Which was VERY surprising considering that GTAIII debuted on the PS2, at the time, I believed that NO GAME could be modded and now I know otherwise.
If you doubt for a second that spams method works... TRY IT...
... be prepared for a HUUUGE surprise!!!
PLEASE try this before telling me i'm wrong, and that everyone knows you can't.... cus you darn well can... and i have, and so can you
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Spam, are you on MSN?? I'd Love to chat with you about this. I've only managed to change the stats of the vehicles and weapons but would love to find out if we've missed anything.

In return, my question would be : Why bother going through all that if you can basically achieve the same thing with a cheats system?
Also, i didn't say you can't change stats *as you could do that with codebreaker an Ar Max easily* i stated that you cannot add content to a game *like new music and such* which was referrign to spam banjo's idea of adding music to the game *i know, should have made that more clear, my bad*
Hope that clears up what i meant....

but would it not be possible to change the music with a compatible sound converter??? And for that matter, with a compatible IMG tool and TXD editor, the only thing that would stop us modding the contents is a restriction on the filesizes, which I never spoted any reference to when trying to mod GTAIII and VC (on ps2). To be honest i never tried moding SA after the trouble I had with trying to mod Vice, untill I found spam's post.
Please could more people try these ideas if you have the knowhow and/or the resources as I'd love to know some answers for sure.

Just for reference sake, with GTAIII when you copy the contents instead of making an ISO the DVD's total size is only 2.5GB for some reason (the iso i believe was 4.7GB!), I only found 1 dummy file which must be duplicated in the TOC or something... I honestly don't know why, i'm just thinking out loud here!!! The game however still plays, which leads me to believe there are no file size restrictions so we may be able to do more with GTAIII than I was originaly lead to believe.

Well, first off, i'd say good luck on finding software that can convert your mp3's to the proper type, and as for Actually adding stuff, i'd say try it and see what happens, chances are about 95% it won't even boot...
Then again, Eventually someone will find a way, but i don't see that happening anytime soon...

Right... First off...
Sound converter... ouch!
We need coders here!!!! lol
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Secondly.. I've been messing again!!!
I used good old IMGTool V2 to open GTA3.IMG... I then changed manana.TXD and manana.DFF to the downloaded models of Peugeot 206 designed to be added to the PC version of the game.
The TXD was added fine, with no errors... and the game booted perfectly, but crashed when I got deep into Los Santos (as i loaded the new model I presume)...
This leads me to believe that IMGTool IS COMPATIBLE with the PS2's IMG format... but the TXD/DFF model I downloaded wasn't.
And so to the point... with compatible models... could we not fully mod vehicles too???
Come on coders!!! Please to god help me out here!!! lol

It's not a case of coders doing it, it's a case of whether it can be done or not!
