New Computer--Settings wrong?

I sure hope someone can help me. I've used DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter on other computers without a problem. I just got a new HP computer two days ago. I've used all the same settings on both programs as I did in the past. Here's the problem....and I did do everything this thread suggested to do to solve it http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44908 to no avail.
When I put any DVD in to Shrink, it comes up with this error code.
DVD Encountered a problem and cannot continue.
Failed to read file "X:\"
Copy Protection error- The read failed because the sector is encrypted.
Every single DVD comes up with that error...old and new. Could it be some kind of setting on this new computer that I'm missing? I sure hope you can help.

Have you tried to play the original dvd for a few seconds first with you PC player software? This is sometimes needed to unlock the drive. Play it a few seconds, then stop and open Shrink and try to rip it again.

Yes. I've played several videos. I keep thinking that there must be something up with this new computer. Like a setting; or an update or SOMETHING! Argh! it's so frustrating to work with software on other computers just fine and then find a glitch like this. I hate getting new computers. :(
I keep hoping it's something simple.

No. I don't have AnyDVD. I never needed it with other computers. I'm running XP, Pentium 4 with plenty of mem and disk space. I've not all that familiar with XP, so could there be something easy that I'm missing?

I have never seen this before so .... I can't really comment on this particular problem.... but if you computer is complaining about encryption .... AnyDVD will take care of that .... it is free for 21 days and will allow you some time to figure this out ..... hopefully. Give it a try ..... I am sure someone that has seen this before will come by sooner or later .... till then .....

i have a HP but its prob not ur pc at all its prob the dvd some dvds shrink cant read try a older movie new sony dvds have trouble just use descrypter to copy it to ur pc

I was getting similar problams a few days ago. I posted a thread, but figured out the problem before anyone posted a solution. You can look through it if you want:

If you cannot play the DVD, than it is possible that you have the same type of problem as I had and you will have to update you motherboard dirvers.
AnyDVD should also work though, because it seems like you are having a Region Protection Lock problem.

Thank you. I read your other thread and the problems do seem similar. My gut feeling is that since this is a new computer, there's something just not right yet. There's always so much tweaking to do, and needless to say...I'm no expert. do you know of an easy way to update all the drivers that I need to update?

Well...I just updated all drivers and it says it's all ok. *sigh* I'm getting very frustrated with this new computer. I wish there were a guide to tweaking! lol

If you have Nero Infotool, it will tell you your Motherboard. Run Nero Infotool and click on the Hardware tab.
Otherwise get Everest Home Edition:

When you find out your motherboard, you need to do a yahoo or google search for the manufacturer. If there are no updates, then you need to go the the chipset manufacturers website. For me it was VIA, for you it may be something else. You will then need to search for Driver updates. It will be somewhere in a support/download section.
Make sure you are downloading the right stuff though. If you screw up you may have to restore your system or reinstall windows. Before downloading any drivers, post whatever you can here so that you can get more help from everyone here.

No, you did windows Update. These are Generic Drivers. You need to get official drivers for your chipset or motherboard. Mine came from Via arena (www.viaarena.com). Post your system info and then we will help you as best as we can.
