I am trying to backup Sin City, the new release but the problem is, the DVD is huge and cannot fit onto a regular disc even when using DVD Shrink. I took off all the subtitles and unwanted audio, but the only way to fit it onto the disc is to take out the sound of the main movie. Is their an easier way of doing this or am I missing something?

this happens from time to time .... LOTR was a good example.

There is 2 ways you can get by this .....

Simple way .... Rip the movie to your hard drive first ..... make a new folder and run it through DVDShrink and save it to this new folder you just made using MAX compression..... then run it .... the second copy that you just did through shrink again and this time burn it to disk.

More complex way .... You will need DvdShrink and VOB Blanker and Dvd Decryptor if you prefer it over Shrink to rip the movie.

#1 .... Rip your movie in File mode to your hard drive.
#2 .... Open the movie in VOB Blanker.
#3 .... You can now preview the entire disk and remove anything you don't want .... ie : warning screens .... prieviews ...... extras ..... and such.
#4 .... Now process this to another folder
#5 .... Now use DvdShrink to make what is left fit on your dvd.

This is my prefered method and I do this with allot of my movies if for nothing else but to get rid of all those warning screens and previews. If you are unsure if you did it right you can use any dvd software to preview it on your pc first before burning it .... and it is surpisingly quick to redo the movie with VOB blanker if you missed something. The whole process ussually doesn't take more that 2 hours and that is with Advanced analys and sharp mode settings on shrink.

Have fun

I just burned it to a single disc, and got everything! Including the DTS track!
I had AnyDVD running in the background, and used DVD Decrypter......

......... Oh yeah, did I mention I burned it to a DL disc? ;o)

jratl1,
There is no special protection on Sin City.
DVD Shrink can rip and compress it by itself.
There will still be about 62.3 % of compression even in re-author mode with subtitles removed. If you don't use the DTS audio, you can get 75.2%.
Turn off all other programs that maybe working in the background.
Shrink will use a considerable amount of CPU usage for this much compression.
Check to see if you are running in PIO mode instead of DMA.
I ripped, compressed and burned a copy in under 30 minutes using Shrink and Nero.

Hey BassNut, can u go over the way u mentioned again one more time with DVD Shrink. I used DVD Decryptopr to get it to myu harddrive. Then i opened up DVDShrink and did it in reauthor mode. Even when i tried to proeview the movie there is no sound from the main one. So after i open DVDShrink and i am in reauthor what do i click on next to have shrink copy it to a file again with out burning? Thanks

Ok ... here goes ....

Step 1

Open Files .....

Step 2

Select your movie that you ripped to your computer

Step 3

Remove some basic stuff ..... most of the time this will do it for you...... Notice this will fit on my DVD with the French sound track and the DTS removed with 50 some % compression

This movie will fit on a DVD now with out the French and DTS sound tracks

Step 4

Click Backup .... This might be all you need to do if you don't want the DTS Sound Track.... This movie will fit on a DVD now with out the French and DTS sound tracks

Step 5

MNake your choice .... Burn .... or save to disk

Step 6

Select your destination folder you want to store your compressed movie if it will not fit on your DVD

Now your computer will do the rest .... leave it all alone till it is done. If your movie needs to be compressed a little more .... ie you kept the DTS sound track then you will need to run it through Shrink again and this time burn it.

Have Fun

DVDFab Express did a great job on SIN CITY! I usually use DVDFab Experss 2.9.3.2 for all my burning backups, except when the compression is less than 85% then I use DVDDecrypter and DVDRebuilder Pro! I never had a problem and so far it's been over 275 burns successfully without ONE coaster!!!! So my collection is now almost 500 burns!

jratl1,
It's a good idea to check your jumper settings for all your drives.
Do not use Cable select
I always manualy set my master and slave drives instead of using cable select. Improper settings could knock your computer out of DMA Mode to PIO only mode.
If all your settings are correct, go here to guide you through changing your transfer mode, if it is incorrect.
http://students.uwsp.edu/ewied096/dma/

I once had a DVD Rom/CD-R/RW combo drive that would knock me in PIO mode every time I burned a CD with it. It now sits in a box, in the closet.

Have you tried Deleting DVD Shrink,re-booting, and installing it again.
Is your computer clean of cookies, Adware, and malware?
Does the computer need to be defraged?
Do you have these two programs?
AdAware SE , Spybot S&D
These two programs are great and FREE.
Use Spybot in "Advanced" mode
click "Tools" bottom left
Click "system start up"
Then you will be able to see what programs start up automattically when you boot up your computer. You will be surprised!
Highlight a program that is checked and go to the right and click the little arrow. A window will open up and give you information about the program. If you see programs that you do not use or need to have open and the info window says "typicaly not required" un-check it. Reboot

Decrypted the movie to HD, used Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic created an ISO image, then burned the image with Nero. Rebuidler is set for Movie Only. No problems. I also used Intervideo Copy 3. No Problems. The copy from Rebuilder was sharper, yet both looked great.

Welcome to Afterdawn and Thank You,
I put these two programs on all of my computers. I also use SpywareBlaster.
It's a good idea to reboot after deleting things with AdAware and rebooting again after running Spybot and deleting things.
Stuff doesn't really get deleted untill you reboot
I'm trying out AVG Virus on my sons computer. It has been going for a few months now with no problems. Update downloads can take forever in the daytime during the week, even with cable modem. So I download all updates late at night or on the weekend. It then downloads in seconds, instead of hours.
