Hey all, I just purchased the Logitech X-530 for my PC and I'm looking for a way to connect my TV or DVD player to the system as well. I have two sound cards on my PC and was wondering if it is possible to have the TV come IN to one, and then use the other to go OUT to the speakers? And if this is possible how to go about switching between the TV and PC sound.
My other question is if there is a device that will allow me to plug everything into, and then one output to the speakers with the ability to switch on and off what I want to use (PC or TV).
And if none of the above options are possible anyone have any other ideas that will eliminate me having to unplug things every time I want to change devices? Thanks!!
Does you're dvd support 2.1 or 5.1 rca outputs? if so you will need 1/8inch female to 1/4inch rca adapter,(you would need 3 pairs, or 1 for 2.0 mode.) They can be found easily and cheaply at radio shack or any electronics store. To switch the modes from Dvd/Tv to pc you would just switch the plugs, but it also depends on how you're setup in the room, like say you're facing one wall, and the tv is facing another, and you would have to mount the speakers one way, i recommend you setup like this, for watching dvds on ur dvd, or better yet watch dvds on ur computer, and setup the speakers by the computer like i did for the tv.

I've thought about the RCA adapters but I was under the impression I would lose my Sub / Center channel. I currently don't have a DVD player, I use my Xbox to play movies, so I'm taking the audio out of the TV via 2 RCA's (Red/White). So I wasn't sure how to go about getting the 3 1/8 plugs that go into the Logitech speakers from the 2 RCA's out of the TV.
I like how this unit lets you plug in as many as 7 sources and it says it outputs 5.1-7.1 from any stereo source. I don't really want to dish out the $100-120 this unit costs right now, so if there is a way to use adapters I would like to do that. But I am interested in your thoughts on the DDTS-100 as it looks like it would be a good investment in my system for the future.
Well you wont really lose youre sub, if you buy a dvd player with 5.1 out, because theres 5 channels, and one subwoofer hense the ".1".(theres center/subwoofer out, i believe so you wouldent lose it). And if youre goign to shell out money for a DD just buy a 5.1 sound card for ur comp and watch them there.
Well I have a 5.1 sound card, but I prefer watching DVDs on my TV not the computer. I know I can get 5.1 with a DVD player, but I'm guessing that its not possible with the 2 RCA's out of the TV correct?
Do you know of any other decoders out there other than Creatives? I havn't been able to find any, just wondering if there are any other inexpensive ones on the market.
hm, yeh not thro the 2 rcas out of youre tv. And if you were going to spring for optical, or a dd decoder, i would suggest upgrading speakers. Its not worth it with thoes.
if your dvd player(or xbox) has digital out(optical or coaxial)
and your soundcard has digital input you can use pc for surround
decoding and output to pc surrond system
I'll try to connect my soundcard Creative audigi to the amply...How to make all 5.1 sytem works cause it seem only L nd r front dat works..Any help preciated
If you connect with digital (s/pdif) you will only get multi channel
output from DVD's and then only if you set the sound card to pass through undecoded digital audio.
If you want multi channel for games and such you need to connect with analog stereo cables,1 for front 1 for surround 1 for center/subwoofer and 1 for side if 7.1.
You need a surround decoder with mult channel analog inputs.
two of the connections on the soundcard have four conducter jacks(center/subwoofer and rear surround)that are used for the side channells with 7.1
you can use standard stereo with them for 5.1
